View Full Version : Husband Kills Wife over GTA
It's certainly not what the media normally expects.. a wife who plays video games so much her husband kills her.. but that is what happened.
Husband Kills Wife Over Grand Theft Auto (http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/features/husband-kills-gtaplaying-wife/?icid=aimDBDL1_link2-a)
I guess she wasn't lucky enough to be married to a man who liked games as much as she did. Divorce or, maybe breaking her TV or game but killing? :/
Anyway always sad when someone dies...

Dannnnng, she replaced him with a TV though.
I probably would've bought her a new GTA, and then broke it. Or maybe just break the console. But there's no way I'm breaking that 37 inch. Man I could use that in my room right about now.
But killing? He didn't have to do that. Now the kids gotta go live with somebody he doesn't know.

noone should kill someone for loving video games, its not like she is messing or cheatin on him. that isnt right.
i honor her with the passion of love for video games, she died for being a gamer. This upset me, that we lost one of us. a female gamer.
Sad. I hope that guy enjoys rotting in a jail cell

Here's the original news article on this:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/5077892/Father-killed-partner-who-became-hooked-on-Sony-PlayStation.html
Both of these people clearly had problems. She was ready to break up a thirty-year marriage over a gaming console. This obviously doesn't excuse what he did, but you invest half your life into a relationship and ten years into raising a son and she's throwing it all out the window over a gaming system?
If I were him, I would have murdered the Playstation, not the wife.

so it wasn't really over video games it was over the fact that he thought she was having an affair and that she wanted him to move out and never see the kids again.
The court yesterday (Monday) heard how Palmer had also become convinced that she was having an affair, and went into a violent rage when she told him she wanted him to move out in November last year, threatening that he would never get to see their children again.
Either way I woulda killed the console, game and/or TV.. but that's just me :x

but if you think about it. there was a deeper problem. her love for him had obviously diminished. so sleeping in the same bed most probably repulsed her. he was probably sleeping in the conservatory not because she wanted to play video games but because of the marriage problems. this just seems to me that the paper is just pin pointing the blame on video games to try and give video games a negative vibe. the telegraph uses these tactics all the time in their political articles.

Creation, very astute observation. The game probably had little if nothing to do with it.

I'm curious why this hasn't been brought up before. Our friendly devoted gamers in Korea have been doing this sort of crazy stuff for quite some time. Killing one another over imaginary currency and items, killing themselves over losing said currency or items, forgetting to eat or use the bathroom and ultimately dying of starvation in their own waste, the list goes on.
But yeah, the moral of the story is, people are friggin crazy.

It gets more eyeballs onto the story. Sad but true. There's obviously no excuse to what the husband did, but it hardly seems like the wife was a saint either. Ladies and gent, if you're in a relationship - that should take priority over gaming. In this situation they needed to clear up their marriage issue instead of just doing stupid things like playing video games constantly and threatening to force someone to move out etc. Imo it would have been better for all parties to simply end the marriage.

Her obsession with that game was probably a symptom of what was wrong, and not the actual cause of it all. Like it was already said, the media just love to blame games for everything, if it's not what turned a guy into a killer for playing violent games, it's the reason for someone else to kill it's player... sheesh.
She was unhappy with the marriage for one reason or another, he couldn't cope with her wish to divorce. She went into video games to deal with her broken relationship, other women will seek other kinds of escapes, but the fact is, it's [unfortunately] not the first time a man kills his wife after she announces her wish for divorce.

Yeah every time this happens it makes video games look bad. why can't they blame something else or find out the real cause

It's so upsetting when something like this happens. The couple should have just talked this out and had her reduce some gaming hours if that was the issue. But like always, I feel like the game is a scapegoat for something else.

Maturity levels in today's society is seemingly decreasing as time goes on. From a student at my high school fighting only weeks from graduation (and he can't graduate, now) to a man killing his wife cuz she played GTA (wtf??? DIVORCE!!!!!), maturity seems to be as rare as girl gamers used to be (or at least, I thought they were at a given time).
Seriously, wtf is going on with society, today? Stupidity's getting stronger and stronger. Companies (MICRO$OFT) are using it to make money (we know those models most likely never picked up a game in their lives), people using it as an excuse to commit horrid crimes (Rwanda and Darfur genocides), a "cool factor" (don't even get me started on rappers), when does this end???
It's pathetic that a senior would get into a fight and throw away three years of high school, and not be able to graduate. It's very pathetic that the husband couldn't just either A, talk to his wife, or B, get a divorce, in place of stabbing her to death.

Umm.....wow....
That's just sad to be honest. How could you kill someone over a video game especially if it's a loved one? That's terrible, some people gave no self control over what they do.....
