What is normal?

It's always intrigued me that the great mystery of 'overall universal perception' of the universe & everything in it never seems to be included in things like this. For example... within the sub-atomic structure solid mass makes up less than 1% of an atoms size. The distance between atoms within molecules can often be compared to light years between planets. This means that regardless of what we think, the truth is, a brick wall is mostly empty space... but it doesn't feel that way while we're banging our heads against it... True reality can't be perceived through senses that force us to believe what isn't true.

Color doesn't exist except as our own brains interpretation of a wave bouncing off of an object & striking the optical nerves in our eyes. Light itself is invisible but we can't see without it, & often what we think we see isn't even there... isn't it odd that we sighted persons tend to rely the most on the sense that's the least trustworthy? Yet, we can only rely on what we perceive to be true at the time.

So the reality of life, the universe with all it's particles shooting around & through us, as well as the world we live in, is completely different than our sensual interpretation &/or perception of it as we go through our daily lives. Of course it must be, as we wouldn't be able to function in what we see as 'normal' without the perception we have. But, it's things like these & others that are the greatest mysteries of them all

it just occured to me that maybe the reason martial arts experts can break stone is because they dont create a universe in there mind controlled by the normall boundries of the supposed physical realm SO there is no spoon lol things like that make me think about how much we hold are selves back by limiting are imagination and creativity

if you were talking on a individual basis then yes... familiarity is normal.... we all need a certain degree of normality in our lives or things just don't work.

I've discussed this topic many times with my brother. I think normality depends on your perception. Whats normal to me, may not be normal to another person. But I also don't consider myself "normal" by any means. Not in my mind anyways.

i was more getting at the universal aspect of normal and what is possible when we open are minds ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE, (not just the social aspect) it just intrigues me when i think about the universe and what we call the law of physics and such. Cause laws were meant to be broken lol and that it is possible to change your universe w/ your thoughts.

So how is a budhist monk able to dismantle and move thousands pound boulders w/ harmonic rhythms? (yes this is true search monks levetating rocks) What makes a monk and a normal person that different? they dont have a superiour brain or genetics so it must be there thought process and there perception of reality is that of someone who can see in between the lines of normality and discover the truth

we're all extraordinary, you yourself proved that in your response. i see normality as our foundations our basic needs to survive. what we decide to do with our lives beyond that is when we become extraordinary people. whether you're an astronaut and you fly off to mars or bringing up 5 kids making sure they're safe. the extraordinary part about us is our goal, our motivation in life.

There isn't a real definition for normal because of this...If had a group of 100 people and pulled them aside and asked what "normal" was to them, they are all going to have a different answer...So therefore there is no normal, it's just a word that we as a society use to try to "fit in."

ok. well. i think everyone's perception of "normal" is different. being "normal", is what people who want to fit in try to be. not that there's anything wrong with that. not at all.
