Honestly the turtle beach headsets have yet to WOW me but they are not to expensive if you really need one...but if your looking for the best quality go with the astro-gaming a40 headset its rather sweet

If you want to use it at LANs get the X1 Both the X1 and X3 I feel are good but the X1 is the only one you can have at a LAN or other events because the wireless signals can cross with the X3.
Personally I have both for that reason. One for competitive events and one in my Living room so I can walk around with it on lol. You know go to the kitchen grab a soda come back. lol

I got the X3's for Christmas. I really like them, they seem to be very clear for games like S&D, but don't use them during HQ's. All you hear is grenades blowing up and you eventually just turn the game sound down which is the reasoning behind these types of headsets. Good luck on your decision.

Astro's FTW! For quality AND a good warranty (just had mine repaired and returned last thursday). Good luck on deciding!

Then it depends if you want to go to MLG events or not. If so, X1, if not, X3 =). Best of luck
turtle beach? lol, never been a fan tbh.
While i maybe be mildly bias because they're our sponsors, the Plantronics Gamecom 777 are damn nice surround sound headsets (and have analog to work with the 360 type thing). Our guys used em for drum hell, so you know they're comfortable (they were happy wearing them for nearly 60 hours straight).

Krissy, I think turtle beaches are actually pretty damn good. i think you'll just have to find a headset thats in your price range and try it out, you can always take it back.

the x1 and x3 don't really have much difference sound wise, except for the fact the x3 is wireless!
If you really want a good headest I think you should try the astros even though they are rather expensive.
If you had to choose between x1 and x3. Choose x1 much cheaper and almost the same thing.

I have the X3's personally. I bought them because I was impatient and didn't want to have to come back next week for a new shipment of X1's.
I'll probably end up getting X1's for LAN's or maybe a set of astro's but we'll see.

I've had Turtle Beach, Tritton, and I now have Astros. I favor the Astros, but you might consider the Tritton 360s. Think they run just over 100, but worth it. I have the Tritton Pros that just came out, but I haven't had the chance to try them.
I've been around a lot longer than you guys, so I can afford toys I couldn't have when I was your age. Turtle Beach is great if that's what your budget allows. :mvdj:

i dunno if u want to go threw the trouble but i use Icemat headset and have a 3.5mm -> 2.5 mm adapter for the microphone, kinda goofy looking headset but very well known and have a pink version for ladies. 5.1 surround and is very very comfortable. headphones are made for professional pc gaming but whatever works. also affordable for the people that dnt wanna spend $100+ on a pair of headphones, pink icemat link here (http://shop.steelseries.com/index.php/audio/steelseries-iron-lady-siberia-full-size-headset.html)

Bringing this up because I just got a set of Turtle Beach X4s.
Really, they're excellent. The 5.1 surround sound is unbelievable, and they're very comfortable. Not quite premium studio headphone quality, but performance-wise, I have nothing bad to say about them. The feature that seperates and elevates X-Box live chat above the volume of the game sound works like a charm.
My only complaint is that voice chat doesn't work with the Ion drum kit. I e-mailed tech support and they said they're working on a battery powered adapter for that purpose, but there's no release date for that yet.

An update:
One of the earphone speakers inexplicably cut out while I was playing. The guitar track on the song went completely out. I turned the headset off and on and it returned, but something was missing. I think the rear channel in the left headset.
I checked the warranty and sure enough, Turtle Beach doesn't cover blown speakers. I checked their RMA process, and sure enough, they don't cover blown speakers. I wasn't playing it loud (I do freelance work as a sound engineer, so I have to protect my hearing), and charges "lab fees" for products that you return that they think aren't really broken. They still work in general, so I'm keeping them around, but after doing some internet research, I ordered the Trittons and I'll just get an optical cable extender.

I have Turtle Beach X3's and I LOVE them... but personally i would much rather have either went with the X1's Or the Astro A40's... The A40's are worth the money and would be your best bet if not then i would get the X1's. I love being able to hear Dead Silence...

The only other problem with the X3's btw the is the damn AAA batteries you will go through and that gets expensive... i would definitely factor that in to your decision

I splurged and got the X4s and love them. I don't find they go through batteries as much as I expected them too, takes 2 AAAs. I just got rechargeable batteries, so I always have a backup set charged and ready.

Just an update. While I was generally happy with the X4s (they are a battery sucker, though), I had a problem where suddenly the guitar audio suddenly went dead while playing a track on Rock Band. It sounded almost like the speakers blew, but I was getting audio for the background music on the left side.
I "rebooted" the transmitter and the headphones and it was back but to me it didn't sound the same. I'm not sure if I blew just one of the speakers in the left side or what. All the dual channel stuff sounded the same from both ends, but it just didn't sound as deep as it did before.
So I checked the possibility of RMA and sure enough, they don't cover blown speakers, and they can charge you a "lab fee" if they diagnose and don't think there's a significant problem, not to mention fees for restocking. So I decided to try another brand of headphones since I needed a second set anyway. I got the Tritton AX Pro. Without a doubt, it's better in every respect. Well, except it's not wireless, which is a pain in the butt when you have cats who love wires. But the audio is way better, and it has individual channel volume control. I even found a way to hook up the chat cord on my drumset so it doesn't get in my way.
Consider me changing my endorsement. Get the Trittons instead.

We have Tritton AXPro but have had a lot of trouble with the cord that plugs into the controller..they have crackle and cut out. Has been replaced 3X. The sound is great and the customer service great, but for the price I think they need to go back to the drawing board and fix some glitches.

I apologize for the bump, but I thought this was some useful information for this thread...
I recently bought the Creative Fatal1ty Gaming Headset (not the USB one) and am in awe with the richness of its deep bass and clear highs. It goes complementary with my Creative X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty sound card. It only cost ~$50 CDN and it has a lot of positive reviews by users and professionals.

The X1's are working great for me, it just took me a little while to figure out how to hook up to my set up. It's great being able to separate the audio (mic) track from the game music, without going over $60. The sound quality is pretty good for the price, but you do get a slight buzz/feedback if you plug in your wireless controller to charge it. So far I love the x1's.

Well, if you are new to Gaming headsets, I would recommend the cheapest of the TB's, the Earforce X1's, 16 feat cord & is only 60 dollars (50 on Amazon) so, it doesn't leave a big dent in your wallet.

nix Turtle Beach and go with Astro or Tritton. You can find the Tritton AX360 for $100 or the Tritton AXPro for $160 at Buy.com.

Hey, those of you with the wireless headsets, we are looking for some people to do write-ups on some of the wireless headsets. If you have a headset you love/hate, please write a review on it so we can post it up on the PMS site... it would be great to have a review of all the major wireless gaming headsets. Please pm me your reviews!
Sorry, we can't supply headsets to write reviews on :( But if you already own a pair (I know Turtle Beaches and A40s seem to be the most popular, but we are looking for others as well) please write a review, and yes, you get a byline :)

I have had my X1s for awhile and they do me good! The chord is very long if needed... They work great there not pricey... Some people prefer the abilty to walk around with the headset but if you just want a cheap good working headset X1s are the way to go!
