here's some personal stuff i've done over the past 6 months while learning how to become a better photographer. take it light, but criticism welcome, i only started in june. I'd love to share some more photos with you guys, but at the moment, 3 of the shoots i've been on so far are NSFW and definitely not suitable for this forum... and the 4th shoot was a golf tournament, not interesting at all.

Craven, SK. 18-55mm kit lens on canon xti. post in photomatix(which sucks), and light shading in PS. l
my thoughts:
i hate this image. i hate how much exposure it got on flickr, and all around, i wish i wouldn't have gone the route i did in post editing. too much HDR effect, visible haloing, etc.

Regina, SK. canon 17-40mm f/4L, 430exII off camera car left pinholed at bumper for flare.

my thoughts:
too pale. i took away alot of the saturation because i wanted to highlight the reflection and shapes of the clouds, but i wish i would've left it the way it came off of the camera. i spend all this time setting white balances and stuff and for what?

Regina, SK. canon 24-70 f/2.8L (gorgeous lens.) 430ex on camera full manual.

my thoughts:
lots of post editing on this one. using lucisart's "wyeth" and exposure features, highlights on the contrast... i think if i did this again, i'd have it at a different location. the backdrop completely ruins the photo.

Regina, SK. canon 17-40mm f/4L.

my thoughts:
hdr, obviously. i wish i would've captured the sky in a better setting, i think that it looks really out of place. i missed a perfectly blue sky by about 2 hours that day. post editing... i wouldn't change a thing. i like how it has a sort of painting look to it. i really wish that stupid little marker for closest to pin was off of the green.

Regina, SK. canon 24-70mm f/2.8L.

my thoughts:
lexia is gorgeous. i don't even have to be good at what i do to make her look good. lucisart on a mask layer to highlight the changes she made to her hair, also a little more blur on the backdrop, it was bright out and i couldn't balance the shutter speed with the depth i wanted so i took it anyways. 430ex on camera e-TTL with this one.

Regina, SK. canon 17-40mm f/4L.

my thoughts:
this image took me 8 hours, 2 redbull and an entire pack of cigarettes to complete... the shading i did on each individual bit of lighting in this image is much beyond the skill i actually have as a photographer. every time i see this image, it makes me think that buying my xti was well worth the money.

Don't take offence to anything I say just going to be honest.

I'm not a huge fan of HDR or when it goes a little overboard. When I first started using (photomatix) I though the effects were awesome. Eventually that wore off. I think if you tone down some of the haloing in hdr the images come out even better.
My favorite shot on here is the girl blowing bubbles though!! I like the detail in the last image as well.

i can't agree more

the first image was the first few days i had my camera... i mean, i HAD to go through that photomatix phase. the second HDR, the cobalt at the bottom, isn't using photomatix at all. its 7 exposures blended in ps using the "merge to hdr" feature with no tone mapping. believe it or not, but that image is 95% dodge and burn, and 5% tone mapping. however, if you look at the golf course image, there's no visible haloing around the treeline, and i did finally get the whole "not so overdone" hdr process down once i learned how to replicate tone mapping in photoshop using curves. photomatix is just so limited on what you can actually control as opposed to tone curves.

i've moved on to different things now, if i was allowed, i'd share with you the fashion shoot i've been working on for the last few weeks, and also the nude modeling portfolio i've been helping someone out with. but... the fashion shoot is an unreleased line of clothes for a local company that doesn't want leaks and the portfolio is.. well... nudes... and i'm sure she'd rather me keep those on the DL until she's positive about wanting to do that type of modeling.

I do like them indeed,

Although you can tell they are majorly edited in a few of them. But you have pulled off the main effect in them all.

My Favs would have to be No.2 and No.5

Good job.

I'm in love with the bubble picture, the lighting and the colors make it feel serene.
