Issue: I was playing WoW while checking stuff on my web browser when all the sudden the computer freezes (no weird beeps or anything from my computer) when I restart the computer it loads like normal then hits the Windows XP loading screen (you know the black screen with the logo and the loading bar) and then just stops... its not like it froze again because the loading bar is still going. Ive loaded into safe mode and it loads perfectly no issues or anything so it has to be a conflicting program of some kind but im not sure what program it is. The only thing ive installed on my computer lately was Sophos Virus Test (its the antivirus my school uses and i wanted to see if what i was currently using was doing its job.. it was btw) the computer had no problems last night what so ever so i dont think its that program especially sense I had to restart the computer once the program finished updating.
Anyways thats the problem... sorry if it sorta doesn't make sense... im rushing so i can go find my XP operating disk to try and see if maybe one of the critical files used in normal setup became corrupt or something... anyways ill check back later. If something doesn't make sense tell me and ill try to retype it.

well i normally some times have the same problem where the windows load bar loads then my pc restart but what i did to first it the last time it happen was check disk my hard drive which u might want to try but i know sometimes when i do this it wont load and then i cant access safe mode so u might want to try check disk from your windows operating disk and that what fixed my problem last time so try that and if they doesnt work try a repair install from your OS disk and this hopefully should fix the problem that you are having. if this doesnt work then i would suggest i reinstall of your os but hopefully u have another partition for your games so that u wont have to reinstall wow

I did chk disk and it came up with no errors on the C drive.... going to check the Boot drive next but so far I cant find my OS disk (we just moved about a month ago and not all the boxes are empty and my mom was holding on to it and she doesn't remember where she put it..... ) anyways i turned off my computer for awhile turned it back on and now i cant access Safe mode its basicly coming down to a OS Repair. So i really need to find the disk now....

I still havnt found my Windows XP Media Center Edition OS Disk but i borrowed a XP Professional disk from a friend (didnt really see why it would matter what edition it was... i know that the media edition has different components then what the pro had but the file that i thought had become corrupt was used in both version along with Vista) did the repair process and thought it was all going well, had a Chkdsk scheduled so i let it do that after that it restarted the computer autim omatically and then BAM! Blue screen with Error 0x00000071. Ive done a google search and from what i can tell this error isnt just linked to Pro ive found links of people complaining about getting this from Home Edition and Media Center Edition but no one seems to know how to fix it without doing a repair :\ anyways was wondering if anyone could help at this point because right now im not sure if ill find the freakin disk for my Media Center... and im not buying a Second OS Disk

came from a post on geeks to go forums
Did you happen to install Zone Alarm Pro on the computer lately? It has caused this error on other computers. This is also caused by some updates from microsoft.

The suggestion is to replace the hard drive's copy of Ntoskrnl.exe with the one from the XP CD.
While this article addresses Win2000, the same principle, same fix may be tried for XP.
