LONDON - British police said Thursday they thwarted a terrorist plot, possibly just days away, to blow up U.S.-bound jetliners over the Atlantic and kill thousands. Chilling accounts leaked by investigators described a plan on the scale of Sept. 11 that would use liquid explosives concealed as everyday carry-on items and common electronic devices to bring down 10 planes in a nearly simultaneous strike.
Wow. I can't describe such an event.

Yeah, so crazy.
And scary... Shampoo bottles?! Wow.. We can't take any kind of liquids anymore, that's insane. What are they going to do? Install new machines??

Ladies and gentlmen you guys need to look you on your planes and if you see anyone who you think could cauze a problem act normal and alert a flight attendent.

This just pisses me off more than anything. No laptops, no cell phones, no nothing! I mean, can I even use my bose headphones now because they require a battery, or will that be illegal too??? There's a point where this paranoia is just overblown and ridiculous, and I think we're there. You're talking millions, and probably billions in lost productivity when business people can't do work on the plane. They're so quick to impose insane restrictions on air travel, but look at the probability of getting killed in a car crash every day, its order of magnitudes higher than airline concerns.
I try to take everything cary-on if possible. It makes things a million times easier on my end. But I won't be able to take my backpack on with laptop, USB Hard drive, digital camera, mouse and reciever, etc - and it will have to get checked. And we know how damn terrible the airlines are with checked luggage. What happens if now that we need to check our luggage that someone's laptop with government data gets 'accidentally' taken or lost. What if you're heading to a city you're not familiar with and your bag with cell phone goes amongst the missing. You've got a much greater probability of ruining people's lives because of the dumb airline's handling methods than you do because of these crazy schemes. Its time for a sanity check of exactly what these protections are giving us compared to what they're costing us. I'm sure many will disagree with me, but I think we've officially gone overboard this time.

true this is clearly an overreaction based on recent events, I think it is necessary overreaction. What else would be done? Let terrorists bring bombs, or at least the ingrediants to make one, on the plane? I think Bush said it best (which is a first), that we are a country at war, and while the opposition isn't a country, they are nevertheless determined on the downfall of the U.S. and our allies. I think they're going with the "better safe than sorry" route here, and while people will invariably be PO'ed at the large amount of precautions and checkpoints, it really has to be done. Right now I'm sure they are really just fearing a second 9/11, even if 9/11 could've been stopped at a lower level, but government reaction to it was slow and lazy.

you know what also sucks. Is if I were to miss my connecting flight again because of the airport and again they wouldnt allow me to have my checked baggage(because they send that one to your destination). And I had to spend the night in that city. I would be stuck with just my carry-ons again. And now that I can't take things like toothpaste, shampoo, bodywash etc i am going to be one stinky person. I guess the the stuff at the hotel will have to do. And some hotels don't have all the stuff you need :(

Its All Over The News
I believe in my post I didn't put the qualifications on it - the laptop ban was between US and the UK, otherwise you can take your laptops and cell phones, but liquids are still a no-no.
ewww, stinky star, we can't have that! :p (usually hotels are stocking the basics so you won't smell too bad, but as for the makeup stuff they won't replace that. Granted none of that applies to me so I'm set muhaha @ all the cosmetic stuffs)
You could fly 10 squadrons of Cesnas over the Canadian border into minnesota/montana/etc. with out being seen, yet you can't bring shampoo on board an airliner? Hmmm.. How bout, if you see someone trying to light a bottle of Pert plus with a Kodak digital camera, or light his brand new Nike's on fire with an ipod nano, Air Marshal's should do their jobs. Makes no sense to allocate money towards increased securities on airliners to not let them do their jobs.

I was just reading in the paper today that they made someone take the unopened condiments out of their pre packaged deli sandwich! It all seems a bit extreme, but I think everyone can see why they are going to such measures.

Man, I flew home from NYC to Florida yesterday... and let me tell you, me and 2 other girls were given the option to either wait in line for another 3 hours to first check our carry ons then wait in line AGAIN for security (they waited until we were 15 feet from the metal detectors to tell us that liquids were not allowed)--- or we could throw away everything we had... so we opted to throw everything away.
Between me and the two other girls, we threw away an EASY $500.00 worth of cosmetics. They wouldnt even let us bring mascara. Still, it was nice to know that NO ONE was getting on the planes with any liquids. That kind of threat REALLY makes you nervous when your actually ON A PLANE.
I was on Jet Blue so we all had those little TV's with like 35 chanels on it... every single person over 10 was watching CNN. A bunch of people cheered when we landed... it was kinda cute, actually.

I was in Virginia at Busch Gardens the other day(which surprisingly had as much security as a McDonald's) and on the way back through DC there were police everywhere and a bunch of helicopters patroling with searchlights. It was kind of cool but at the same time, made you more nervous than a usual trip through DC at night.

LOL, best quote. Ever. Thank you I needed that laugh.:p
And Rip, you freaked me out too I almost thought we couldn't take our laptops, I was thinking I would just have to drive from Florida to New York.
Anywho, it's to be expected. We're in high alert now, and the government would rather inconvenience many many people, and spend al ot of money rather then be blamed for another 9/11, which was completely their fault. I just think they don't know any type of middle ground when it comes to protecting the public, it's either extreme and over the top or non existent.

No, i just had to throw away liquid. Most of MY makeup was powders... so I just had to throw away my shampoo, conditioner, hairspray, gel, face soap, lotion, body spray, etc. I felt really bad for this one older lady who had purchased a $300.00 bottle of perfume and had to go check her PURSE in to bring it home.

Yeh this sux big time. Like people said above, the government is doing what they didnt do b4 9-11. Yeh its a big downer but id rather have all this security than winding up on a plane with a terrorist.

Apparently security is down a little now. Still clear plastic bags and the like. No liquids etc before you go through security and then once through you can apparently buy new stuff.

Just wondering... who here actually believes it was Bin Ladin or any terrorists associated with him that are responsible for all this, like 9/11 or the attacks in Brittan? Honestly.
Oh, I was in Busch Gardens Virginia a few weeks ago too!
I had to fly from San Antonio to Atlanta to Paris the day it happened... let me tell you I never realized how much I missed being able to bring drinks with me till this.. couldn't even have contact solution or hand sanitizer..
Luckily though I heard about it when I woke up that morning and managed to repack all my liquids etc in checked luggage.. got scared when they said you couldn't bring laptops.. but then that was just for people who were leaving from the UK to the US. So I got to bring mine on board at least.
My flight was uber crap but thankfully I was not delayed due to the new security meausres.. just because of bad weather and a lack of fuel.. O_o

Lack of fuel could pose a problem
Yeah we got that way from circling Atlanta waiting for bad weather to pass.. we landed in Columbus Georgia with about 10 other planes and waited 4 hours for fuel.. O_o
i hope you got free food. i would have demanded free food...
hopefully when i leave for orlando on friday (argh i wish i could have left on wednesday like i planned, but oh well) there wont be any problems.
