“Hopeless Lover”

Conflict besets the man I am,
Love is my dependency, and a hope is a fairy tale,
I seek love in the most childish of ways,
I bury my problems, and hope my magnificent self shines through the shroud of my truth,
I hope that others never see my problems,
I hope that I am perfect in others eyes,
I hope that when I say, “I love you” that they say it in return,
But they can’t,
They cannot say it in return,
Just as I am not perfect,
Just as my problems are blatantly evident,
Just as my problems are robbed from their grave,
And my fake self shines like the taper of Lady Macbeth,
There is a fairy tale I rushed to believe,
It was that you could say, “I love you”,
If you could, then my hopes came true,
But nothing like reality can show you the hopelessness,
And no love can save you from reality,
And thus I understand and accept it all,
I am the Hopeless Lover.
