Dead Rising Demo [Archive] - PMS

Yup, it just came out on Marketplace. I'm having serious connection trouble so I can probably finish downloading it by the end of the day but still, if anyone's checked it out tell me how it is.

By the way, it is a 1014MB file, I'm at fifteen percent after two hours :mad:

well the demo isn't in the Xbox 360 section so excuse me.

The download is taking hours for me to get past 1%, I'm gonna wait until the servers aren't under such duress, I guess a lot of people want to try this game.

EDIT: Sky, if you were referring to the Dead Rising general discussion topic, that's not the same. I was informing that there is a demo, which merits its own topic.

demon chill out man, i was joking, note the :p :D

anyways, it was pretty good, the graphics were ok, however the cutscenes were god awful ugly. same with the voice overs. the blood was really really good, that was the best part. and i was a lil dissapointed to not be able to pick up everything in stores, but i guess that's to be expected, but riding a skateboard around then jumping off jamming it into a zombie is pretty cool.
however i dont really like games where there isnt a story and all you do is kill, and this is what it is turning out to look like. i wont buy it myself, but since my birthday is soon if i get it then i will be happy. all in all it was pretty good.

I think there is a story, supposedly it involves a cult. I just know right now about the human pyschopathic survivors.

i hope this game has like an garden type store, so we can pull out a lawnmower, *thinks back to watching Dead Alive* good stuff lol

The impressive part of the demo was grabbing any and everything in the world and using it. For example, grabbing a cash register and cutting through hordes of zombies to reach another store, which houses skateboards. Get on a skateboard, skate through the zombies (Take this, Green Day!) and going down stairs to an open section, with plants and stores abound.

I'm gonna rent it. The game itself lasts for seven hours and twelve minutes, but replay is encouraged.

is that like an exact figure in the game that it lasts 7 hours and twelve minutes? or is that just how long it took someone to beat it? cause games can be beat faster, and slower by different players.

i'm getting it for my birthday though, so im not going to be spending the money on it.

Well, that's reportedly how long the 72-hour time limit lasts in the real world, but I think you can miss the chopper entirely, but I'm not sure.

I think its that you can go back.

Yeah.. you have 72 hours in-game within the mall.. you go in.. do your thing.. run through quests.. etc etc..

and then thats the end of the main story.. you have to be able to stay around and just mess around or something or it would render that whole "who can survive the longest" statistic useless.

I'm sure someone else knows the exact details.

As for the demo.. i loved it.. but I am highly fusterated that its on a timer :(

This game warrents a purchase simply on the fact that it adds nicely to the videogame collection. The fact that it will provide HOURS of mindless entertainment increases the value.

agreed, the timer really sucks, and that adds to the fact that you are stuck in that section of the mall. it would be an awesome demo if there was no timer, i would play it literally for hours.

and hours of entertainment is right, hopefully they wont f up the achievements so you beat the game and get them all, that way it'll bring even more gameplay and hours into it.

I like this game for a couple reasons, but the main thing (which I felt in the demo) is that it takes itself seriously enough to make it creepy, but makes fun of itself enough to be funny. For instance, when the timer runs out, and you get that close-up of the red eyed zombie, that's creepy. Now, when you can run around and put Serverbot heads on the zombies and take a picture, that's funny. And yes, it's a Serverbot from Megaman Legends, not a Lego head. Megaman = Capcom = makes more sense.

i think the reason that this game will be fun is the arrangement of the weapons. i mean, chainsaw, lawnmower, milk, squirtguns, cd's, golfballs and clubs, sheer cutters. yeah but did you know about the teddy bear heads? those are even better lol.

Skywalker, you could've resized those images - the quality looks pretty crummy at the current size, and it really stretches out the forum.

I'm still psyched about the demo, as I have yet to play it - I'm currently posting this from a hotel room in the middle of nowhere with no Xbox 360 around :p

The first time I played I finished in a minute. Turned around and got the sniper ending.

So I tried again and got the cult ending...

Looks to be a great game, so it's on preorder for my bday.

Yeh, the endings keep pissin me off lol. I got the sniper ending last time, then before that I got the bug ending (that was wack). I got a knife off of one zombie one time, that thing was great for just slashing through zombies, fast and easy. I kinda hate how weapons can wear out or whatever, thats just meh. And the water guns...seriously....

no those arent endings really, they are just areas in the actual game where you would be able to go, but you cant in the demo.

Well in the demo they are the end, but they are just short FMVs in the finished game (just a guess anyway)

How do you get the bug ending? So far I've found 4, and they are all a bit weird.

Right when you start the demo, turn to your right.
There should be an exit door.

I got the sniper ending in about the first few minutes of playing the demo. It kinda sucks that it is timed, but it still gives you a good taste of the game (if you don't accidently trigger a cutscene). The variety of weapons, from jewlery, to shooting golf balls with a golf club, to a cash register is just awesome. I wouldn't consider it a AAA title, but I do think it will be a lot of fun and I'll be picking it up on Tuesday.

whats the "cult" ending?Walk into the movie theater, and you'll get a cutscene where some religious leader are to sacrifice a bunch of people. To get to the theater, just keep heading north (or whatever direction you're facing when you start) and it will be at the end of the mall.

Those of you wondering if the game's too easy, or if there's not much story - don't worry.

I'll say for certain that there is a good story, and following the storyline isn't easy at all - my controller's been thrown a few times recently. :)

I think this game's going to get even more attention after it's released and more people start playing it.

I have been playing a lot of the demo, and I have to say the game looks very fun. Favorite part of the demo though has to be the katana. Slicing zombies in half FTW.

^Luke, the Katana is on an awning just off the ledge in Columbian Roasters. Jump off the side by where the cash registers are, and you should land on the awning (it's red-orange) where the katana is. Hack away, but I warn you, it doesn't have much longevity.

Check the bookstore - there may be a book in there that will make your bladed weapons last 3x longer. (Then again, that may be in another bookstore...) With that, the Katana is a wonderful weapon.

The weapons breaking is a good idea, but it can be quite frustrating if you are wading through the undead and you have no weapons half way through.

Can you find ammo for gun etc? Or do you need to pick up a new gun when you run out?
