How's the online play?

online is a lot of fun-ranked and unranked matches. 4 ppl per room, watch the others play while you wait, full chat. Its nice for practices :) me and several PMS/H2O are already trying it out.

I rented the game yesterday to see what it was like i think its great. I am thinking about buying it. I spent about 2hrs trying to unlock The Apprentice on arcade mode using darth vader it was rough but i finally did it. Alot of characters are really good.
So if i do buy the game and anyone else from PMS/H20 are on psn add me if you want.:mvwave:

I'd be willing to join a Soul Calibur division as soon as I get the game. I can only commit to four hours a week though.

My thoughts about online play is that it's not to be considered highly competitive. Even with a five bar connection I still feel a bit of lag and that hinders my game play.
The main reason I got SC4 was because of competitive game play not online, but offline. I was fortunate to have a competitive scene, in fact we're the most competitive scene throughout Canada. The fact that I learn to appreciate competitive game play despite my frustration throughout many loses, has extended my love for the series; otherwise, my love for the series won't last that long.
Though I mainly love SC4 for competitive fun, the casual fun part of it is a bonus for me which I do enjoy taking part of. Initially I may sound pessimistic about online play; however, I do consider it casual fun and it's a nice way to meet random ppl and promote them to the Soul Calibur community. Earning honors and money also adds to the fun of it so I'm hoping to unlock equipment through online play. Also don't consider these highly ranked players online players to be good offline players. Many of the good tourney players rather spend their days playing offline than online.

yeah the online play is not the best. But when you live where there is little or no competition,it helps. Gamebattles for both systems is fun. I am on the ps3 version right now,my xbox is being reparied : ( The ps3 version is just as good and I find less spamers of moves on there for some reason.

However, I doubt online play will make you become prepared for a well experienced and decent tourney player who plays offline.
I'd say the best way of learning is to build the competition in areas with no competitive scene. Spread the word about SC4 offline competition through ads or something. Gather those who are willing to learn. You'll probably start off small but at least it affects your learning curve cuz then they'll adapt and they'll start to counter your moves and you have to do the same in return. So basically you'll learn through each other's experience plus looking up at competitive community forums also benefits.

good point. Here is my problem where I live even putting together a gaming party or a group to play with is near impossible when you live in a town in Nebraska lol
The computer on hard is okay, but it's predictable and easy to beat. So my options are computer on hard or playing online against tough opponets. :mvconfused:
I love offline tournaments and defently would rather go to one then just play online. Offline tournaments are far and few inbetween sadily for me.
