Empathy

A little poetry I wrote a few months ago:
How I wish I could return
To those days of ignorant bliss.
The world I see today, granted
By great wisdom entrusted to me,
Is it really worth the pain?
Torment? Suffering? Loss?
There is one thing wisdom
Cannot replace. Ignorance,
That blissful virginity, long gone,
Forgotten, only a whisper in the wind.
And all that is left in its wake
Is that which corrupts,
Destroys, kills, dismembers.
And so it seems, that all is lost,
But one hope yet remains for me.
That one day I will forget, once again
My soul freed from despair’s stranglehold.
How I wish I could return
To those days of ignorant bliss.
The world I see today, granted
By great wisdom entrusted to me,
Is it really worth the pain?
Torment? Suffering? Loss?
There is one thing wisdom
Cannot replace. Ignorance,
That blissful virginity, long gone,
Forgotten, only a whisper in the wind.
And all that is left in its wake
Is that which corrupts,
Destroys, kills, dismembers.
And so it seems, that all is lost,
But one hope yet remains for me.
That one day I will forget, once again
My soul freed from despair’s stranglehold.
