Alright, it was an interesting article. I know you're really into Sony and the Ps3 so I'll refrain from expressing the majority of my skepticism. Personally, I believe the Ps3 will be a semi-flop at first. It will take till 2008 to take off in any number, as thats when they will have the flexibility to lower the price a bit.. however it all depends on how blu-ray goes.

Anywho.. without going off topic. There are some interesting points made throughout the article. Its certainly great that the Ps3 is going to be capable of a lot.. and I'm really excited to see what sort of experiences the CELL can provide us with as well as Sonys vision of an online media market place.

This sort of made me chuckle though...

We wanted to make sure that at any stage in the life cycle we're giving consumers the option and not forcing stuff on them that they don't even need.

What about blu ray? Currently no one wants that.. yet we're being forced it because sony wants it to suceed. Again, dont want to get off topic with the "hows" and "whys". But these sort of contradictions are very common in Sonys press releases, interviews and information lately.. which doesnt really increase consumer appeal.

I'll be formally taking the "wait and see" approach. I've no doubt sony will do great.. its just a matter of when.. how long it takes for them to get manufacturing costs down to be able to offer the console at a decent price.

I cant really explain it without producing a 3 page rant.. but I've got a hunch that the Wii is going to enter with a bang and fizzle out a year or two into the market, the Ps3 is going to come in with a very poor post-launch period.. but constantly be picking up pace.. and the x360 is going to hold steady. Sony will really shine around 2008 (IMO).
