So I have been wondering, Should I buy the 40 gb PS3 or the 80? Since the 40 comes with no game, and doesn't have backwards compatibility I am starting to have my doubts about getting the 40. I am also trying to save up for a Macbook so I can do some recording. If I buy the 40 GB it will only set me back by 2 weeks but if I buy the 80 GB it will set me back by 3? Anyone have any ideas?

they just released in the e3 conference that the 80 gig will have the same features, and be the same price as the 40. so go with the 80

Wait, get the 80 that is being released, that has the same features, as the current 40.

You can still find the 60GB on eBay, but I'm not sure if the 80GB is backwards compatible.

Get the 80GB PS3.
If you want to play your PS2 games then just get a PS2 and component cables if you are going to play the PS2 on a Hi-Def T.V.

But I would suggest playing PS2 titles on a SD T.V.

60GB heats up because it's 95 nm and has the emotion engine gpu from ps2 while the original 80GB had software bc so i'd expect that's the case now as well. AVOID the 40gb as it doesn't even have the flash readers...you might think who cares but if they're on board you can take the mem stick from psp and use it to back up / transfer saved data. You'll still need to install the game if your friend doesn't own it but you don't have to start over, unlike nintendo who rewards our patronige by treating us all like felons. If for whatever reason your wii breaks/gets stollen you have to start over on smash brawl, mario kart and other games...too bad we can't just save to the sd card slot and play from it as well. Paranoid nintendo.

They don't make the good 80G anymore I don't think, and I don't think they make the 60 gig anymore either. Although as someone said you can still get these versions on Ebay and stuff.

The 80 gig I bought has 4 USB ports, 80 gigs, and good PS2 backwards compatibility. What all the copy & paste gaming journalists are mis-reporting is that they "slashed the price of the high-end PS3" that's not correct.

They are taking the 40 gig with 2 USB ports and very limited PS2 backwards compatibility and adding 40 gigs and selling it for the same price (thus it will be an 80 gig unit that is less expensive than the other 80 gig unit) They aren't slashing the price of the high-end PS3. If I understand it all correctly they won't be making the high-end PS3 (the one I have with the 4 ports) anymore.

Yes they do still make the 80GB PS3.
E3 actually just announced the price drop for the 80GB PS3.

They still made it, but nobody really sold it. The only system I've seen in stores lately besides the MGS4 bundle was the 40GB. In a way it's a price drop for the 80GB, but not really. All they're doing is putting an 80GB hard drive in the 40GB model. I still think it's a good move to double the hard drive space in the 40GB model.

That is a very good move considering the amount of space that metal gear solid takes up, 4.6 GB, if they kept the 40 GB model then one game would take up almost 25% of the drive. That wouldn't be counting the other games that they have that take up about 1 GB of space per game. I do know that you can uninstall the games but who wants to have to wait for installation if they want to play the game again
