Hmmm...not sure if you guys have heard, but the other day when I was watching AOTS durning 'The Feed' they mentioned that the controller will have built-in blue tooth, built-in memory, run off of AA batteries, and that you'll also be able to actually hear the sounds from the other controller or something of the sort. You guys heard anything about this? I was just on IGN but they don't have anything saying this and I know AOTS is like well for me the best place to get info besides IGN.

yep. Blue tooth is just the connectivity interface to the Wii.. as in.. its a bluetooth transmitter.. dont expect to sync it up to your cell phone ;)
as for the batteries.. I'd rather have some LiMH or related rechargable battery for it which I'm sure they'll have.. sort of like how the x360 game with AA batteries but had the option to purchase a rechargeable upgrade.
And I believe the speaker is a great thing! There was speculation over a new "button" found on a screenshot a month or so ago being the volume bar (ala the DS). I'm excited to see how it all works in everyday gaming.
The Wii sounds really exciting.. This fall is going to be a lot of fun for gamers.

yes this is all old news.
the hardware specs i've seen for the wii though are pretty dissapointing, not much an improvement over the cube actually. I'm worried what that means for games on all the systems, cross - platform dev will be harder :-/

Wasn't most of this announced at E3?

Ars had a quick write up on why they're skeptical (http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20060802-7407.html) about the released specs which makes some sense.. I Hope they're right.. cause as of right now the Wii spec-wise looks horrible.. and while i'm not saying it will spell its failure.. it certainly doesnt help in any way.

Yeah it was.
I read through what ars had, but I also have a few bones to pick with them as well. I mean if you look at it, the specs might be regurgitated from odd places, and aren't trustworthy to begin with (in my opinion), but also they are really feasible at the same time, and would represent an extremely low cost console to produce. Something I can see nintendo liking. Its really too early to tell, I'm waiting on official denials from Nintendo at this point.

i just hope that it is a lil more powerful than the cube, that way it will be cheap, and have pretty good graphics, and with the remote, just damn fun.

I agree completely.. I was just throwing that out there since all I'm reading lately are journalists slamming nintendo on those unofficial specs.
Really all we can do is wait and see. Regardless.. unless the Wii is leagues ahead of what we're seeing those numbers.. the console is going to hit a brick wall a few years after launch.
Its going to be great when its released.. and at a price of $299 or less.. you'd be crazy not to buy it (assuming you can afford it).. but I've a feeling once the novelty of the new controller wears off.. it'll fizzle. Just a hunch.. and I very well may be wrong.. but I dont see that controller carrying the console for 6 years if those are the specs..
Nintendo only needs a few years out of it, and then in the long run it'll be a PS3 / x360 war. Microsoft just needs to awe enough people to make them buy the 360 in addition to the wii or skip the wii in favor of the PS3. I think if MS can stomach a price cut they might be able to do do really well.

Honestly, the wii's strong point isn't going to be specs/graphics or anything like that it's going to be it's content. Nintendo has a long line of great titles, more so than any other system, that's way a die hard Nintendo fan, remains a die hard Nintendo fan(although that doesn't mean they don't have other consoles). Nintendo has been in this business for a long time and they are always innovative, the DS is proof of that.
I don't think it's just going to be a passing fad either. And if it's just a step up from the Gamecube all the better. Because that's pretty much what the 360 was, maybe 2 or 3 steps up from the Xbox, and from what I see the PS3 will be the same, although I haven't seen too much in way of games for the PS3.
However, 360 has been worth it because they have more then specs, they have a few great titles, plus the Marketplace, which you might have considered a fad as well. But I don't see the marketplace going anywhere.
In business you have to be able to be creative and come out with fresh ideas to make any kind of lasting impression and I think Nintendo is doing just that.
That's just my opinion, but regardless it's still too soon to say.

My biggest question regarding the Wii-mote is whether the unique control sceme will broaden or limit the games that are to come. The system will probably get a lot of exclusive games, but it will probably miss out on some cross-platform titles, as while the PS3 and Xbox 360 are pretty much the same thing - raw power, the Wii have to have the Wii-mote integrated within each game. I do think this is a challenge for most developers.
Wii will probably attract a lot of the PS2-party-game-buyers as this console alone is a big party game and game immersion will take a step forward.
Ugh, rant. It's 03:17AM.

Wii to convert voice into text?
Allegedly, the technology not only converts speech into text, but also analyzes the tone of speech and applies corresponding colors, sizes, and fonts to the text. Presumably, the technology would also censor explicit speech, or better, convert it into sweet nothings, thereby protecting the innocent ears, or rather, eyes of Nintendo's fledgling fan base. Rest assured, 'mature' gamers will still be able to experience good ol' fashioned speech-on-speech communication.
The rumor also suggests that "wireless, head-mounted microphones" will be the standard device for online chatter, be it the all-speech or speech-to-text format. The forum post adds that Wii and DS could share some unspecified peripherals, perhaps implying that the microphones will be cross-platform compatible.
Nintendo is releasing a headset in two months so this could be the last secret.

All games that require VC controller compatible with GC controller?
Since the Virtual Console controller plugs into the Wiimote, why shouldn't they be interchangeable.
But there are some problems with the rumors.. namely because the Classic controller has 2 or 3 more buttons than the GCN (depending on if the second Z button with be on the final controller design). Plus the classic has a clipping mechanism on its back, which might only be used for somehow attaching the Wiimote to the back, or it might be used to further expand the functionality of the classic controller.
