A mastectomy is when a woman's breast is removed in order to remove cancerous breast cells/tissue. If you know anyone who has had a Mastectomy, you may know that there is a lot of discomfort and pain afterwards. Insurance companies are trying to make mastectomies an outpatient procedure. Let's give women the chance to recover properly in the hospital for 2 days after surgery.

It takes 2 seconds to do this and is very important. Please take the time and do it really quickly! Please let everyone know about this petetion. If there was ever a time when our voices and choices should be heard, this is one of those times. Please, it only takes 30 seconds to go to this website and vote on this issue.

There's a bill called the Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act which will require Insurance Companies to cover a minimum 48-hour hospital stay for patients undergoing a mastectomy. It's about eliminating the 'drive-through mastectomy' where women are forced to go home just a few hours after surgery, against the wishes of their doctor, still groggy from anesthesia and sometimes with drainage tubes still attached.

Lifetime Television has put this bill on their Web page with a petition drive to show your support. Last year over half the House signed on.

PLEASE!! Sign the petition by clicking on the Web site below. You need not give more than your name and zip code number.

This takes about 2 seconds. PLEASE PASS THIS ON to your friends and family, and on behalf of all women, THANKS!!!!!

I recieved this in a forward from my sister-in-law whos mother underwent a double mastectomy a few years back, I can't imagine what this must of been like. According to statistics 1 in 8 women will develope breast cancer in her life, so I think we should take the time to let our voices be heard, in one aspect, of what can be a devestating disease. If all the women involved in the PMS clan (and you guys too, H2O) signed this petion that would be thousands more signatures and voices! So again, THANKYOU!!!

Interesting to see what those cheap insurance companies are trying to pull these days. That is what happens when you let a Medical doctor be the guy in charge at the HMO and then tell them that money is more important then health. The scary fact is that even with all the possible complications of drive through surgery (regardless of the type) it is cheaper for them to perform all those surgeries as so and then settle any potential lawsuits that may arise then it would be for them to allow each person a proper stay in the hospital.

Of course the average stay in a hospital can be just as scary with all the medicine mixups and possible infections (http://www.consumersunion.org/campaigns/stophospitalinfections/learn.html)that run through those places now.
