HTML is off intentionally for security reasons, enabling HTML can be very dangerous.

To use smiles, in advanced post just click a smilie.

I've noticed that you've connected the instant forum with php scripting. Have you ever tried to perform similar operations in asp, aspx .net, isapi or jsp etc. before?

Not sure your experience with forums, but vBulletin, IPB, phpBB2, SMF are all the popular discussion boards. They ALL use php. This forum is a combination of php/js/css/html/xml and the AJAX method. The other methods you described typically are for large companies that use purchased systems to like MSSQL or Oracle, etc and are for companies with million of dollars.

Small companies like PMS Clan employ the fully open source protocols that everyone uses which is PHP with mySQL backend
