Not a die hard fan but I downloaded it anyway :P. It's awesome, totally different than Ghosts but familiar (90's NIN?). I can't believe that it is free :mvclap::mvdj::mvguitar:

I thought it was great that Trent made this move to help emphasize his distaste with the state of the music industry, but the album on the whole was not terribly impressive. Good intent, not so good follow through.

i agree. I strongly agree with his motives for releasing such an album, and making it free to all. Its just that, one man's creativity can only go so far. Even with good lyrics, it means nothing without creative music to back it up.

Trent marches to the beat of his own drum--he cut ties with labels since Year Zero. Personally, I think The Slip is a solid album, though not as memorable as his previous efforts.

Well I mean, Trent has always done that, now is not any different than before. But perhaps you know, he could use some outside input one of these days.

He did it because musicians are finally starting to realize that there is no money in the traditional record label industry anymore. Musicians rarely made money off records to begin with, but anymore, they're making less and less. So for a band to really survive, they need to record, release, promote, distribute, and tour records themselves.

Trent needs to settle down. It used to be he would pump out a new album every year or so ; something ambitious in the world of music. Most bands are lucky if they release a new CD every 2 years and what... he's pumping out new albums like every 7 months now!! Jesus Christ....
