I think that the violence is only part of the reason that there aren't many women who play games compared to men. Our society has pretty much been one where women are supposed to do things that are conidered feminin, and pretty much anything that has to do with electronics don't normally fit into that category. The violence might be a big reason, most women i have known don't like to go out and kill other things, in real life or in a game.

it mostly depends on the opinion of the female. some like it, some don't care, some want a game "more girly", whatever that could be. opinions vary, and a guy told you that!!!

I would say it depends on the person. I don't think it's the a major reason why more females don't game though.

l'd say the reason is guys on Live that have never seen a woman before and don't know how to act around one.

Not really, I have seen girls on Live play violent games and sometimes be worst then the guys. I think most guys just not use to women being into violence or horror or anything of such. If u want proven example play Condemned 2 Multiplayer. That game is horror survival with cursing, drama, and all kinds violence and the women in the 360 Forum loves that game. I also think and this is my opinion the reason they would bring it up because most women who have kids are quicker to make a judgement about what is appriopate to be around the house then some guys who just be like "Sure, kids u can play just dont' let your mother know". But, thats my opinion....

Depends on the girl. I personally don't like Real life violence, but i started playing shooting games when i was 5. I don't remember my first one, probably Golden eye, my dad bought them for me. I enjoy it virtually, but i could never hold a real gun.

I say the more the blood and gore the better. I know the first time I played a game (I believe it was mortal kombat) and the blood went flying I thought it was the coolest thing. Not that I'm all deranged in real life but it makes the video game fun. It really does depend on the girl...but then again I know guys that think today's games are to violent (recently my brother seen me play COD4 and ask me what ever happened to games like Sonic). Think about it though...maybe the blood is absent but violence has always been around. Mario jumps on or kills creatures with fireballs, sonic jumped on to kill, shooting things down (like spaceships or centipedes) or killing creatures (pitfall) on the atari. Maybe its not all gory and not exactly the same...but its still killing. I believe that girls still play just as much as they always have...maybe even more. I know my 9yr old niece still loves to play. Again I think it depends on the girl. Example: Hunting is big around here...yes most of the men do it..but we do have girls that hunt too. Same goes for sports and video games people.

Hmm i think that humanity in general finds it easier to destroy than create. Which would explain why violent video games and films are popular.

Yeah, Irl I can't even run over a squirrel with my car... But in online games I'm a blood demon.... Funny how irl u can be mr. nice guy...
I could imagine running over a few squirrels IRL, I think it depends on the girl honestly. People are differint and it just depends on who the girl is.
I think senseless voilence is bad, but voilence that is nescessary should happen irl.
But then again, alot of people find joy in fighting. not so much people enjoy killing but I know alot of people who like to fight, such as myself when I get the chance without getting in trouble lol.
I believe the men play more video games then women is because of the sexism, not the violence.

I think women like the violence just as much as men, again I will go back to the ole ex gf deal.
Most people think women wouldnt like violent stuff, so when I wanted my ex to start playing video games, she and her parents of course bought her games like harry potter and wallace and gramet, games that kids would play, and of course she would play them every now and then, once i introduced her to GoW, she is hooked now on games and instead of her arguing with me to stop playing so much, I was arguing with her to stop playing so much. I think people just assume women to be all feminen, but they like violence and gore just as much. Think about it, how come when a wreck is completly off the road, no one is in a unsafe place, people still slow down and look at it?

Hell no, women can be just as ruthelss as men. That stereotype is out the door - welcome to the 21st century, in Israel women are conscripted just like the guys and I heard their marksman team that competes internationaly is mostly female :S
Just look at PMS... they compete in many FPS genres but most developers brand violence as "action" which basically puts this down to your own interpretation of what violence really is.

There's a grain of truth to that. I think the real problem is sexism. A lot of developers act like we don't exist and they market to men and they design a lot of games with men in mind. Not only that but female gamers don't always get a warm reception from male gamers (present company excluded of course).

I guess in the old days it was "inappropriate" for women to do lots of things. But society has come a long way. Obviously we all know that lots of guys think females can't handle blood and guts. But if you look back in history, you will see that women were nursing the wounds of men. They saw blood and guts throughout history probably more than men. Guys are just dumb and need something to talk about since they aren't as good as female gamers.

Someone told me and I thought it was a joke, but I think men play games more so because it keep our mind off of sex.... But, if u don't believe me read up on the articles about guys should be burried with their joy sticks and controllers......

I think it's based on personal opinion and withstanding the amount of violence in one sitting.
