Has anyone else played this yet? I have and it is WAYYYYYYY short. I mean I beat it in like two days. Still havent beat HL2 yet. The chick is with you the whole time but she is about as useful as diarrhea on a road trip.

Alyx is very useful, just have to know how to use her. Episode One is suppose to be short as they release continuous episodes throughout the year. Your experiance is becomes more alive when you get a DirectX 9 card to do the HDR graphics. Playing HL2 helps the experiance more as well as playing HL. You have to be a HL fan to really appreciate it. Valve likes to take thier time and make sure thier games are always the best. Instead of making thier fans wait for another six years they felt that doing episodes would be a good thing.

Alyx gets in the way alot though. It does look good. even though i am running this 9800 pro with my PCIe card on RMA. I was never been an HL fan. I only played it because my BF wanted me to. Its okay.
But Valve slipped up on Red Orchestra. That game teabags. The learning curve is way too high.

I can't belive people are complaining about the length of Episode One. And ladyofrage, why play Episode One if you haven't even beaten Half-Life 2? That makes no sense at all, as Episode One continues the story right after the end of Half-Life 2.
I probably beat the game in four hours or so, and I did take time to look around, and listen to what people said. The story and the gameplay in this game is it's hallmark, and it's worth the $20 bucks that it costs at Steam.
I've played through the game two times, the last time with the commentaries (which are excellent). Because of HDR the game looks better than the original Half-Life 2, so this game looks pretty top-notch.
Another thing I feel that has to be mentioned is the voice acting - this is movie-grade quality, and it makes for a really immersive gameplay experience.
And Alyx is actually pretty usefull, she can pretty much hold her own and comes in handy whenever you run out of ammo, as well as keeping enemies at bay while you are occupied with puzzles.
I'm really looking forward to Episode Two, which we'll hopefully see in half a year or something like that. But again, do not play Episode One if you haven't beat Half-Life 2 yet.
And Valve wasn't involved with development of Red Orchestra, that one is done by Tripwire Entertainment, Valve are only distributing it through Steam - so you can't really blame any gameplay flaws on them.
If you want to see crap, take a look at Sin Episodes: Emergence. That game is horrible.

I have watched other people beat HL2. I feel like I played that game for a millenia.

I played HL2 Episode One when it came out, and I absolutely LOVED it. Alyx was done really well - the interaction was great.
It took me about 6 hours (I did it in one sitting though, so I dunno how often I got up to take breaks), and I paid $18 since I'd preordered. :D
Worth every penny. I can't wait for Episode 2!!!

The AI interaction was done very well for Alyx. Even her cracking jokes every now and then was pretty cool. The skins and textures have to be massive because it looks great. She would get in the way sometimes when trying to get through a doorway or something, not to mention she would conveniently leave when you were about to get your arse handed to you.
