I'm really sorry to hear that, I was reading about it in the news this morning, it made headlines on google news above all the mid-east stuff. My condolences go out to both your and your family (and extended family of course).
There are a lot of safety awareness sites about lightning, however I'm afraid they were stuck in a situation where little other than insane paranoia (aka stay inside whenever the sky isn't clear) could have prevented it. Its a very tragic accident.
