Has anyone else read up on the Zune media player confirmation from Microsoft?

I've heard about it some, sounds pretty intertesting. Depending on price, I'll probably get one when it comes out. :p

I had a huge article on the rumors goin up on dpad, but sadly this stuff kinda made it all old news, so i just had a news post up. Oh well....
I've been reading up on it, still indecisive if they can make a significant dent in the market.

One of the reasons the iPod was a success was that it was easy to use and was controlled by a scroll pad. If Zune can market at the same price of the iPod with more storage and good marketing, I think it might work. Oh, and have a cool scrolly thing. :)

serious tho. I not gonna buy a product that i kno lil about. It sounds good but until i get to hold it and test it out, ipods all tha way!!!

Microsoft confirms launch of "Zune"

BEIJING, July 25 (Xinhuanet)-- Confirming weeks of rumours, Microsoft said it will launch a new music and entertainment player and accompanying software under the Zune brand this year, in an attempt to go after Apple Computer's iTunes and the iPod, according to media reports Monday.
"Under the Zune brand, we will deliver a family of hardware and software products, the first of which will be available this year," said Chris Stephenson, general manager of marketing for Microsoft, in a prepared statement.
The initial device will have wi-fi and use a hard drive to store music.
Stephenson said: "We see a great opportunity to bring together technology and community to allow consumers to explore and discover music together."
Microsoft did not give out any further details, but confirmed that the first products will begin shipping by the end of 2006.
Stephenson told Billboard magazine that other Zune devices, including a video player, are in the works.
Zune-branded devices are apparently only one part of Microsoft's strategy, though, with Stephenson telling the magazine Microsoft's broader vision is to allow people to play and discover music from a variety of devices including computers, phones and the Xbox 360.
Apple representative declined to comment on Microsoft's announcement.
Apple has maintained a dominant share of both the music player and downloadable music businesses, selling more than 58 million iPods and more than a billion songs. Enditem

Wow. That would be so tight if microsoft made a phone that would work with the 360. But i hope that zune player will be worth it cuz now I'm gonna wait 4 that to come out b4 i buy and ipod.
I think that the wi-fi part iz gonna blow the ipod out the window. unless apple has something up their sleeve....

I don't think the Zune is supposed to be a phone, just a music/media player. God knows we don't need another cell phone! :eek:

yeh but wudnt that be koo tho....i dont kno im just throwing ideas out there but they shud have it be like the slvr or rokr. I mean we should have a choice in what we want. like i wouldnt mind having a phone/mp3 player that can communicate with my 360 via wi-fi. Damn that wud be hella koo ta have!!!!
But even if its not a phone, it shud have wi-fi comm
I alwayz want the latest tech so if they came out with it i wud definetely get it :D
