are you on wireless? You may need to open up some of the ports on the router. If your modem and router are separate then you might try direct connecting to the xbox from the modem and see if you can connect with those 12 friends.

From what I hear the reason you cant connect to those people is because of each of your routers... If you open the ports on it there will be a better chance of a connection. I had a guy on my list that couldnt connect and once we got his ports opened he connected and stayed in rooms... before if he got in he would drop the minute we did something. Rip might be able to help more. I am just going off of memory right now.

You have a similar setup to mine, except I use a DiLink router w/Westell Modem. I'm assuming you have DSL too =)

This walk-through guide had my connection playing nice with everyone in no time. It doesn't hurt to try:

Prior to following those instructions, I kept having connection issues with other people and I couldn't even host a room for some of my friends because they couldn't connect. Good Luck!!!

P.S.
I've forwarded my ports before but I think manually configuring my xbox with its own IP address worked. That url guide shows you how to do both!

Since you have a modem, I would first connect your Xbox directly to your modem and not use a router temporarily. Even though this is generally not safe, it can tell you whether or not it is in fact your router is the problem. Then we can troubleshoot from there.

It is possible that it may not be your router.

yeah that's what the xbox guy said to try what snake said & i'm going to tery the link too afer i hook it up to my modem. I really hope that it isn't my router and opening port's will help but i can only hope =] thanks !

Just follow the guide as suggested by PMS Lilibean. i.e. http://live.tommccann.net/ It's really useful and indeed would resolve the issue...
