I just got done reading an article on gamestop about how Violent video games cause kids to kill. Last time I checked I didn't want to go run down people on the side of the street with my car after playing GTA, maybe pick up a hooker but I would never kill her and take my money back that's just unethical. It's safe to say 99% of the gamers out there are not going to commit an act of violence after playing a video game and if he or she does than I doubt it's the games problem but an anger problem and anything would of triggered it like the News. So maybe we need ESRB ratings on the News casts or just cut out all Violent material from the news as well.

Thank you for letting me rant

Totally true stuff. I mean just yesterday my elderly neighbor was pulling out of her driveway, and I just came up and threw her out of the car. Then I just walked off and went to pick up a hooker.

I completely agree with you.
Violence can be found in A LOT more places than just video games

I actually did a huge report on this my senior year in my health class. It's a real fun subject to follow, just to see what parents have to say, and what doctors can come up with different deseases and what not for children and gaming.

And as for your comments on GTA, well, there was similar comment made about Mario, and if your not already snickering, it went something along the lines of

"Well, us older adults, played games like Mario, and you don't see us, jumping ontop of peoples heads, or eating mushrooms in hopes of gaining size"

I heard something similar as well about Mario, but it went:

"just cause I play Mario don't mean I'm gonna jump out my office window, land on some poor fool, and watch a coin, pop out they a$$!"

Lol...Its true. The media is always trying to blame something else and for the last 10 years its been that way. I think the media people just hate video games because it takes people away from watching there shows.

It's really unfair how the media targets video games over all other forms of entertainment when it comes to violence or affecting the world's youth. All I can say is just ignore them because sooner or later the gaming generations will be the ones in the seats of power. The problem comes from the lack of understanding folks like Jack Thompson (who has been completely thrown off of his high horse recently) have for video games.

It's nothing new. It's usually just some dead beat parents looking for a scapegoat when their kids do something wrong and they're actually FORCED to act like parents, and so an article like this is spawned.

Look at school shootings like Columbine. The parents couldn't care less what their kids where up to (playing with guns, knives, and explosives), but after their kids got in trouble it was all "It's not our fault our kids did this. They played Doom and Duke Nukem. It's the video game's fault."

Just f'in retarded. I'd like to speak to one of the parents that are like that. Just to let them know what the real problem is. They seriously need to be told to STFU and act like decent parents.... I'd say more, but there are children around.

It's pretty amazing how games are blamed, god forbid some parents do their job. You had the kids, how about raising them?

Yes let's force the government to parent your kids for you, that's what America is all about! And yes let's assign the blame for our kids behavior to everything but our lack of discipline!

First it started with music, then it moved to movies, and now it's video games. There will always be some form of media that is forced to take the wrath of parents. Gamestores have ratings and cannot sell mature games to minors, but regardless of all these precautions we're still gonna hear complaints from parents. Here's an idea, instead of just letting your kid swear at me on Halo 2 live make him do some chores!

parents need to do the parenting. If I ever yelled any form of cuss words around my parents I got the belt. It's like kids suffering exaustion and sleep deprivation from playing MMORPG's to much. I would only get 3 hours at a time to play video games and than my mom would make me go outside and play.

How do they think the kids get the games... parents.

If you guys think it's funny about how the media is trying to take down video games you should download the "alt.npr: press start" podcast, and the "downloadable content" podcast. They talk about stuff like that and I have to say, it's pretty darn funny. It might be a few episodes back, but it's deffinatly worth the listen because they bring up a lot of good points countering what the media has to say, and they're hilarious doing so.

its definately an interesting topic. I mean obviously the media blaming vidio games for violence isn't totally unfounded ( games like GTA could be "contributing factors" where children have warped views of the world), but its simply unfair to balme all video games for the actions of children/ teens who may be violent as a result of their enviroment. But another thing is, VIDEO GAMES HAVE AGE LIMITS.
Take Halo for example. Halo 2 (here in Ireland and I think England) has a limit of about 16. But yet there are a lot of young kids who play it, we can see that just from XBL. Its the same with games like Quake, Doom, Gun, GTA. Dont get me wrong, my brother is 15 and has been playing games like Halo (16+ etc) since he was about 13 /14. But if he ever went out and shot some random hooker, I wouldnt blame the games. We, as a family, obviously wouldn't have raised him propperly. I think its up to parent to watch what their kids are playing and stop using violence in games as an easy excuse for bad parenting. Even besides that, I wouldnt be surprised if many of the parents who complain about the gaming industry know very little about it.
I mean, didnt people think that the camera was a method of stealing their soul? They just didnt understand.

If video games caused everyone to go one killing sprees or jack cars then the whole world would be chaos... Think about it out of all the people that play video games not that many commit crimes.. And when a crime is commited by a gamer its not because the just got done playing a very violent game its usually their child hood or some one around them.. or even something they just decided to do.. This all falls back to people and their animal instincts they just go nuts sometimes.. video games are more of a way to relax than they are at putting stress on someone..

and one can never forget some of the statistics.

I remember one quite clearly, just off the top of my head. I got it reading an article at GameRevolution.com when I was bored awhile ago, it said that the crime rate has actually decreased over the recent years while videogames have flourished, putting proof to the theory that videogames act as an outlet for aggression in real life in game.

same here, read it as well, and still people blame video games for life's problems, as they will always blame away from themselves.

Yeah I could go on and on about this one. To bad some parents don't take responsibility for raising their own children.
