View Full Version : 360 Durability?

I share a 360 with my younger brother and after recently going through one 360 and the"rings of death" my brother said that he read that the 360 shouldn't be played for more than three hours due to it heating up, which is the main issue with the 360 breaking down.

Is there any validity to this? I'm at the brink of buying another 360 and if "overplaying" really is an issue then I will probably commit the +$400 (console + another copy of CoD4 :D ).

Where did he hear that from?

I accidentally leave mine on all the time, and it's sometimes on 24/7 with someone playing on it (I host ton's of local lan party's) and I've never gotten a ring of death. I've had mine for over a year now.

Put it in a well ventilated area and you should be fine. If it overheats, it is one of the older "defective" units.

Proof of it not overheating as you/whoever say(s) it does?
When we finally managed to get a custom game lobby going in the Halo 3 Friends and Family beta (Invite only, not the Public one), I left my xbox 360 on (to sit in the lobby so it would never close.. just in case), which was in my closet. The closet doors were CLOSED, and clothes hanging on hangars were draped all over the 360. It did not overheat. It DID, however, provide the perfect amount of heat (for my room..) on a few rainy days.

I agree with the heat part though. With my overclocked PC with some parts of it at 140F under load, and my 360 on, it keeps my room nice and cozy during the winter.

I'll save myself the money then and hopefully nothing goes wrong. I might just put a small fan near the intake side of the 360 just to make him feel better.

Lol. That reminds me of what my friend did to his 360, just for kicks.

Great stuff.
