Someone told me once that having the console vertical is really bad bc it can scratch the discs - i've had mine vertical however for as long as i've had it (like two years). Unfortunately, i was really stupid, and put it horizontal when i got home from school. I just rented NCAA 08 so it's brand new and unscratched, and the console keeps telling me it can't read it and freezing halfway through each game - really frustrating! What's worse is it did this with a different game i rented, AND i checked my Halo 3 disc and it's starting to get scratched. I don't know how to fix this problem. Did anyone experience similar difficulties?

Yes having it sit up makes the disc flow freely like a swivel so it's not too good.

Chocolate, i've heard that you should never switch from vertical to horizontal while it's turned on, did you do that? I had mine horizontal for a long time, just switched to vertical and I haven't experienced any problems. I haven't ever really looked at my discs closely, but i haven't had problems. Good luck though :\

No, I never flipped it while it was on, only while off. Luckily I found my Replacement Plan from Best Buy however and it's still covered, so I think I'm gonna send it in through Best Buy and get a new/refurbished xbox. It's going to be annoying though since it did this during break!

I have mine Horizontal and nothing has ever happened. I do know to NEVER move your box if a disc is in...the disc can get so scratched even if you move it a little bit.

I'm not sure...I wouldn't take the chance never have but I know for sure that you dont want to move it at all when its on lol there was a youtube video of someone just moving it from horizontal to vertical and the disc had a huge circle scratch.

As long as you aren't moving the Xbox really fast while it's turned off it won't scratch the disc. You really have to swing it around to do that, better to take the disc out before moving it though, and definately never move it while it's on. We've had ours vertical since we've had it and there was no issues until it got knocked over while playing COD3, that really messed up the disc. Nothing a little Disk Dr wouldn't fix...

The issues Microsoft was having about the Xbox 360 before is that some of the consoles if left vertically will scratch because of the hard drive resting on the optical drive. But hopefully you don't have any of the first generation 360's because those may experience scratching. But just dont move it while the console is on, and becareful about having the disc slide around in there when you move it. Even when it is off it happen to me somehow.
