ok. so basically. my computer is pretty old, and had a big problem in the past where it crashed and stopped working, we figured it was the hard drive and one of my RAM sticks. so i had put it away for a long time, pulled it out of my closet one day and it worked fine. but every once in awhile i'll get a blue screen (usually when it gets bumped, kicked, etc.) and have to restart in safe mode, system restore, and then it's fine, it also usually has a small window that says "windows has recovered from a serious problem. would you like to send this information? send | dont send". but the other day it happened, it restarts, i switch to safe mode, and it wont load the safe mode. it has all those text lines scroll down to a final one called JGOGO.sys or something like that and doesnt load it up. eventually it restarts the computer. when i try to load all the other safe modes it does the same thing. when i try to boot up windows just regularly it has the windows loading screen, it just keeps going and going and going, etc.
i also had my girl friend chat with a geek squad guy (she has some sort of "chat with live geek squad agents" on her computer") and he just said "if you purchase our special Advanced Diagnostic With Repair service it can help diagnos your problem, at a flat rate of 249.99" which is complete BS, geek squad i hate you.
i googled it and got some info that it might be my hard drive, but i honestly hope it isn't because A. i have about 100 gigs of music, movies, TV shows, photoshop, .psd's, irreplacable items, etc. B. dont really have the cash for a new one. C. lost my legit CD copy of windows XP (ugh mothers).
also if this helps, it's a custom made computer, my friend helped build and purchase the parts cause well i'm not that computer smart.
ummm yeah i think that's it

might be dead sectors on your hdd...
better buy a new one :s
try and burn your files you want to save the files on disks... get a legal copy of XP (from a friend or whatever) and you're set ;0

Your hard drive is working if it even lets you attempt to boot into safe mode. Put the hard drive in another computer as a slave and transfer the files off. Its most likely a problem with your OS install.

Your not using RAID are you?
It seems when you load up into anything, including Safemode - JGOGO.sys is somehow corrupted (bad update, or hard drive failure). But in safemode, when that pops up, it should give you the option to skip loading that driver.. If you have that option try it.
But that driver is for the Hard Drive as well... So It's very possible that this is killing your system.
But your data.. If you have another PC or a friends, just plug it into Master Slave or Sec. Slave and grab the data off it and burn it to DVD's or whatever.

ok but um like i said i'm not very computer savy so i kinda know what that means but i dont know how to do it, i have another computer here but im not sure how to set up a slave.

umm nope not a RAID. it gives me the option to skip something, i did it before and it still didnt work.
damnit, what's the goin rate of a nize size hard drive these days?
PS: thanks for the information guys. i'm glad im in this community :D lol

Take the hard drive out of the computer. Plug it into another. If it has a big flat gray cable coming out of it then your hard drive uses an IDE connection and requires to be slaved. Look on the end of the drive for little jumpers connecting pins. It should have a diagram on the hard drive to know which pins to put the jumper on to.
If your drive has a 4 pin power connector and a small thin connector (not really wide) then you have a SATA connector and you don't have to worry about making it a slave. Most likely you have IDE though since your computer is old.
If you cannot access the drive then there are bad sectors on the drive. To fix that I recommend SpinRite http://www.grc.com/spinrite.htm. Its made by a very popular security guru in my field and is the best as low level diagnostics on the drive and will work for days to months if needed to try to repair your drive. It basically directly accesses the drive to repair it, instead of every other recovery software which basically just works with the stupid hard drive S.M.A.R.T. technology.

The first thing I would try is blow out the case with canned air, remove and reinstall all the cards and RAM in the computer. The fact that you said it would have a problem when bumped could mean that something is not seated correctly.
Drives are getting cheaper all the time. Just picked up a 320GB for my wifes computer for $50 at Fry's a couple weeks ago. JGOGO.sys has to do with a controller built into your motherboard (which is most likely a Gigabyte brand board). If it stops there it could be that or the next component to load that is causing the issue. If you can't find someone with the same version of XP you have, if you know anyone with a Dell computer that has the same version of XP their reload disk will work as well (the Dell disk is just a regular copy of windows with something extra that doesn't effect you). Another thing you can do is head down to a Fry's or Best Buy or somewhere and pick up an external HDD case, it will be a box that you put your drive into, and it will have a power supply and a USB jack so you can plug it into another computer, then once you've gotten a new drive you can wipe that one and use it as an external backup. The worst posibility could be that your motherboards HDD controller can be failing. Which means new computer, because it won't be worth it to replace the motherboard if it's older.
I'm curious to hear how things turn out.

Uhh I'm not very smart with computers but theres a very simple solution, Fragment "Wipe your entire computer" just make sure you have a windows XP disk and its cleaned and ready to use

Im pretty sure you mean format or reformat, however that will delete any files he wants from this HDD.

That's really disrespectful....
The term fragment means just what it sounds like. Imagine you have one big file, the computer may split it into a bunch of smaler pieces and put it on smaller chunks of empty spce on the disk. Thus, defragmenting is an attempt to move data around on the hard drive so the files are physicaly in one location instead of in fragments.
Formatting is exactly what he does not want to do. I'd definitely say you need a windows disc asap, or another pc to, as snake suggested, make the disc a slave and copy files off.
It sounds like you'll need to do a repair instal with the disc probably, sorry, not really good news.
If you want a five hundred gig should run you about 150 or so, but you need to make sure the new one is sata or ide depending on what your pc has (big grey = ide)

I think that this would be the best solution. It does sound like something might not be seated firmly. Can you tell us anything about the specs of the computer. I will take to my cousin to see if he can get you a "copy" of xp. But can you list any other error codes you get and any other msg or sounds you get,
Dude if you want you can aim me at jchris6885 or email me at jchris6885@gmail.com

I feel your pain, this happened to me. Its your whole computer, when this happened to me it was because of a virus, it actually infected my whole computer, RAM, Processors HD the works. It even found a way to turn my HD from a 120 GB to a 29 GB. Eventually i just bought a new computer.
This might not be whats happened to yours but i definately recommend getting your computer checked over. Good luck.

There is not a virus that can destroy your whole computer. If you reformatted you would have been back to a perfectly good pc and a 120GB HD.

Yea, you'd think so, but it didnt, i reformatted it like 5 times per week. And that same day i ended up reaching my max disc space limit and i have no idea how. Im not lying, ill even send you the hard drive:)

You just had a bad hard drive. Had nothing to do with the virus. It is possible that the virus was corrupting the partition table and virtually resizing your partition. Thats if you get a boot sector virus.
And yes there are viruses that can destroy your computer, that flash the BIOS with a corrupt BIOS that can shut off your heatsink, GPU fan, and case fans (if plugged into the mobo). But I haven't seen that virus in the wild in years. Make sure you never flash your BIOS with a community modified version, always use one from your motherboards website.
Its far more common for something like a cap on your motherboard to go bad than get one of the viruses that actually will physically harm your machine. But yes they do exist (blue pill was one if i remember?) They're nasty, but they have implimented a significant amount of protection against the older common ones. At any rate, what type of format were you doing? Might want to dban the drive and try it form there. That should get rid of everything instead of just a quick format.

My computer used to have similar problems with my computers. What i would suggest is get a second hard drive that you boot off of. That would give your media another layer of protection, mainly because most virusus don't target your media files specifically, they are just collateral damage. I have been booting off of a 40GB hard drive and i haven't any problems even when i get virusus, they don't get the chance to affect the other drive before they are detected and cleaned most of the time. But the best thing to do is just get another hard drive transfer the files that you want off, just don't copy the system files just in case it is a virus, and reformat the drive from there. And If it is your hard that is the problem and not a virus then your going to have to get a new drive anyway.

Virus's will try to hide anywhere, including any and all partitions/hard drives

I didn't say that your files would be completely safe, just safer. Virusus won't initially target non system files, but if you don't find it fast enough then they will still currupt them.

Of course, every precaution helps, until it becomes so conflicting to productivity where it is pointless. It is the nature of security.
