just got a new comp amd Im trying to hook up my 360 to it. I followed the instructions xbox.com/pcsetup. I have both zune and windows media player 11. I go into library media sharing and look but no devices are there. Im not sure what to do. I know you need windows media connect but it says its in windows media player 11. So im not sure what to do ive follwed faqs on how to test it still cant find anything. I go on my 360 it cant find the computer either. Im running win xp service pack 2. Half a gig of ram p4 processer 2.60 ghtz. Im running my connection through an linksys wired router model # befsr41. I can connect to xbox live fine just not to my pc. No firewalls on my comp besides windows firewall. No viruses or spyware (new reformat). I try running to test its connection to the pc it passes the ip address just cant find the pc.
I think it has somthing to do with the router

You could be right in your assumption about the router possibly being the problem. First of all windows firewall is basically useless. Your linksys router more than likely has a built in firewall, and a hardware firewall is going to give you more protection than any sort of software is going to give you.....ever.
So try this first, turn off windows firewall off in your control panel.
Upon doing this try connecting to the media center again.
If this does not work it is likely that you need to forward the necessary ports to your router.
Put in basic terms what that means is that you are going to make your computer tell your router that your xbox is allowed to make connections both to and from your computer. Now i don't currently have the time to write a full personalized guide for you but i have a guide here for your exact router to forward ports to your router to the xbox media center. This should be moderately easy to follow. If not please post back and tell me where you are stuck :D
Here is the guide

Yes one of the first things I tried no luck. Ive had prblems with this router since ive had it, its a version 4, ive tried updating the firmware no help, I used to have problems with the nat. I am still trying to figure it out but it may be time to look for a new router. Unless you think you can help me, if not any recommendations on a new router that ill be able to do everything with on xbox live?
(edit) I just thought of somthing but i doubt it. Im trying this on a new computer with my old computer i updated the firmware, do i have to update again? I think i remember reading from my comp books it is written to flash memory inside the router as insturuction to operate. So theres nothing needed on the computer right?

You are correct, the firmware resides on the flash memory in the router. NAT problems are usually resolved by opening the specific ports for XBL.
To get my Xbox and PC to talk to each other I had to open ports on both the PC and within the router, then download the Windows Media Connect app from Microsoft. Have you verified that you have the .NET Framework 1.1 installed on your PC?

Checked didnt have it as well as installed the service pack for it. Any other key downloads i need to make? Also ive tried opening the ports in the past no use. I didnt get an open nat until i enabled upnp.

We just got a WRT54GS, day before yesterday. I would be using it now, but my room is too far away from the router for our ethernet cables, and I don't have the wireless yet... I can't really help you here, though.

That's a great router... same one I have actually. Some routers just don't support all of the features xbox live has to offer, that's why they suggest checking xbox.com for a list of supported routers etc before purchase. Your other router could very well be on the list, but if it isn't that could be part of your problem. Glad you got it worked out though. :D
Italy, I would buy some longer Ethernet cables; wireless on the 360 isn't that great. My 360 is about 120 ft away from the router and wireless was a joke from that far. If you're within 20 ft or so wireless shouldn't be much of a problem, but you'd still have a better connection if you were wired naturally.
