I made this from miSS diana's tutorial, its my first on ever making, and I think it turned out really good for being my first in all.

that's really good for a first! ;) just makesure the scanlines layer is Under your pic and font also... and stroking the font (1pxblack) would be nice too

yeah looks good, same as diana said about the scanlines.
amd be sure to stroke the font.

If you mean pixel fonts (like what I have in my Avatar and Sig) check this place (http://www.photoshopsupport.com/tutorials/jennifer/pixel-fonts.html) out (about 1/2 way down the page) for a listing of sites that have some free pix fonts.

how do I do that? instead of them being black make it grey or something?

Lower the opacity of the layer in which the scanlines are... I usually use something between 20%-40% depending on the background.

the one i used in my tutorial is VISITOR i believe.. :)
