So I have just been assigned a 4 week project to present a 3d object created of 2 or more common "tools" that people use in society and create them into something totally different. This point of this is to create a metaphor that describes a topic we want to portray.

For my assignment, I chose Girl Gaming.

Since my statement of Intent for this project is a bit extreme and still rough, I'll just give yall the overview.

I am pretty much taking common tools that differ extremely.
Like a Barbie Doll (toy) and a Video game Controller (gaming)
and merging them into an object that portrays this issue in a feminist fashion.

Pretty much, I'm playing on these girl gaming stereotypes to create a visual representation of the issue at hand in hopes that more people will get the message.

I will document my work process in here for anyone who is interested. I have a list of common girl gaming stereotypes already but if any of you want to list some in here that you hear alot, then feel free to share. I dont need any ideas but if you would like to post your thoughts and opinions I would be more than glad to hear what you all have to say.

Sounds interesting, though I'm kind of lost on what the ideal end result will be, if you could explain it a bit more. It just sounds like a Barbie and a 360 controller portraying girl gaming could only be as bluntly drawn as a Barbie doll holding a 360 controller sitting on a couch or something.

Though, when you're done, I'm sure I'll see the end result and go "Oooh. Thats what she was talking about". But until then, my curiousity lingers! O.o

oh hehe. Well I'll upload my sketches at lunchime.

playing on the sterotyle "*&^%# Make me a Sandwhich"
Im taking a sandwhich maker and a console and fusing the two to play on that stereotype.

I have to run back to class so I cant really get a whole lot into detail about my statement of intent, etc.
But I promise it will all make sense later. hehe

Not quite sure which direction you are trying to take here, but would be a funny image to create a girl on the couch gaming intently, with a guy in the background in the kitchen doing the cooking/making a sandwich lol. GL, I am sure it will come out great. I like your sig btw

Ah but this is for my 3D Design class, which is essentially Abstract Sculpture 101.
So text, and figures are not allowed. And I have to make everything from scratch without found objects.

ATM, My idea has involved into a George Forman Grill made out of an NES. The controller is a an NES controller is made from a sandwich and I am also making an apron.

Im sure most of you all are still pretty confused, but I promise when it's all done it will make more sense. ^__^

I don't exactly understand how this falls into two or more 'tools'.....
A stereotype is a mindset, a mental thing, not really a tool?

well what im kinda getting from it is that the tools are something that represent the sterotype like girl gamers a tool or a sterotype that invloves girl games would be a game controller, console etc.

no the metaphor is the stereotype.
the components making up the project are the tool.
