Is it possible for my phone line to be on the fritz yet my internet works perfectly?

I'm on DSL, so it uses the phone line in order to work. My phones aren't working no matter where I plug them in, but my internet is still working perfectly.

 I may be wrong, but isn't that not supposed to be possible?

PS: Yes I DID pay my bill, so don't even go there. :p

This same problem happened to a friend of mine. His dad called Verizon to see what was going on and they said that they were doing some work on the phone lines and that's why the internet worked, but not the phone. So it is possible, just kind of strange.

I had a problem with my Copper Line outside my house. The connection from the house to the street was on and off, so they ended up replacing it. Moisture got into the line and made it work and sometimes not work.

Its because phone and internet on a phone line are 2 different frequencies. DSL is a higher one. And phone is just plain audio. So they were working on the audio part not the data part.
