http://kotaku.com/gaming/rumor/xbox-360-fall-update-to-bring-parental-timer-296340.php

Supposedly the fall update will provide a timer so that a controlled account is only able to play for a set amount of hours then it shuts down.

I think it's a great tool, but I don't think many parents will use it.

We all know that not too many parents turn off voice chat, but instead allow their children to have unsupervised voice chat with total strangers over the internet. Even if you totally disregard the slim possbility of their being predators on XBL, what responsible parent exposes their children to the language that is abundant on XBL? Sorry.... that started to turn into a rant..... just a pet peeve that I'm sure many of you share :o

Anyway.... this feature could be good for someone who was trying to cut back on game time.

So long as it has a warning attached. If it just shuts the console off n the middle of a game that'd be poorly implemented. I might use it as a way to cut down on really long session of gaming.

Maybe it is not the parents to be using it but the gamers themselves. I admit, I have been online more than I should, and I think this is a solid example of showing boundaries in gaming and reality. I figure since my therapist has told me to limit my gameplay, I should play 2 hours a day and not 12. So as soon as I see this update confirmed, I will take full advantage for myself and show my parents I have full control of my gameplay. My only problem is, I have trouble remembering passwords and I had enough trouble starting up my 360 program. Lets just hope I have more control than my parents think I do.

i think the idea of this is great, and a necessity with online gaming. however, lets be honest, how many parents are knowledgeable enough to even turn the Xbox on? if Microsoft really cares about time spent gaming by children, make this big. commercials, news, etc. let parents know about this add on, because i know no parent is checking xbox.com about the fall update. just my opinion.

That is a terrible idea actually. Immediate shut-offs during a game could scratch the discs right? And when the power went out it had an immediate shut-off and I had ther RoD but that was a power surge...

brit this is Microsoft were talking about. i am sure they have a way of this going off without immediate and abrupt power down.

True but did they ever FIX the ROD? No! Did they ever regret making ppl pay to have their 360s refurbished? No! So what are the chances of them making this a working feature?about 5 in 9. Personally I think about half of 360 Owners could care less about Parental Controls. Not that I dont. I mean they matter in a case of YOUNG children which I think if you let a YOUNG child play over Xbox Live you really need some help in parenting. But it all depends on the maturity of the kid. Such as screamers etc...
