I put this here because it pertains to both the Xbox 360 and PC, and so it didn't feel right to put it in any one section.

I realize that Oblivion is kinda old now, and most people have either given up and gone back to playing Halo or have finished it and moved on.

Unfortunately this is a game I just can't get enough of (the pc version of it). The mere fact that there are so many interesting mods you can download for it out there (once you've waded through the million armor/weapon retextures (mostly various glass armor colors)) is reason enough for me to keep playing even after I've done every single quest.

Anyways I was wondering what would people like to see in the next installment of Elder Scrolls?

my list would be as follows:

I love the game the way it is so my list is more about features I'd like to see rather than stuff I'd like to see tweaked and/or changed or removed.

Better character creation - getting a good looking character is a challenge. Although I did get my character looking like Avril Lavigne.

Better 3rd person functionality - You spend ages creating a good looking character and equip them with good looking armor/clothes yet the most you ever see of any of it is the arms and hands. It seems like such a waste to me. Some people might not like fighting in 3rd persn, so first person should always remain an option. However, while talking to people and/or in towns it should switch to 3rd person or a non combat mode (once someone attacks you or you pull out your sword it would switch back to first person (i.e. "battle mode")

Mannequins and better display cases - When you buy (or take over) a house you should have access to a "build mode" within that house. This would allow you to place display cases where you want them, and have better control over how items are placed in them as well. Having a view of the display case interior and be able to drag, drop, rotate, and 'pin' items in place, so you don't have to struggle getting them the way you want them using telekinesis spells or holding down the grab button only to have the items fall to the front of the case once you try to close it or bump into it later on. Mannequins would basically be the same. Drag and drop them where you want them and what ever way you want them facing, equip them with the armor and/or weapons you want them to display, and then select from posing options such as: weapon drawn - on/off, shield raised - on/off, salute, kneel, spell casting, etc. (screen shot examples at the end)

Better Combat and non leveled everything - Combat, well being an archer sucks. You can only get one shot off with 3x damage before the enemy runs at you quite erratically swinging his (or her) weapons wildly at you and surprisingly landing a lot of hits that prevent you from retaliating or casting heal spells on yourself. Yet when you're attacking people with swords they often manage to retaliate and/or cast all the spells they want even when they are staggering back from a hit. Higher skill level archers should be able to shoot an enemy in the head for a one hit kill or at least something like that. The leveled creatures and items are kinda annoying. I know it's supposed to help keep the challenge up, but it takes all the fun out of looting since you know you'll never get anything that will help you all that much throughout the game, unless you do a heck of a lot of leveling up which takes forever.

I think I'll stop my list there so other people have stuff to wish for as well. :p

these are the screen shots of the mannequin system the devs should put into their next Elder Scrolls game (and any ES game thereafter):

Currently the best mannequins are available in the form of a mod from a guy named Rezznoid. There's a couple options: Wooden or Marble and Male or Female

They look something like this:

Wooden:

Marble:
http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/5180/screenshot28pu5.th.png (http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/5180/screenshot28pu5.png)

The commands are pretty limited. They include commands like Modify Inventory, Pick Up (picks up the mannequin and returns all items on it to your inventory). and some simple poses like the ones I mentioned earlier.

There's also a mod out there that adds a spell called "directors touch" to your spell list. What this does is enable you to "force" any NPC in the game into any animation the game has to offer (basically you can make people salute, kneel, or perform pretty much any action available in the game).

Combine the features of these two mods and add options like Ebony, glass, and wax mannequin types. Wax would be basically a exact copy of your character that would could dress up. Example:

It would be an awesome new feature for the pack rats that enjoy putting their latest spoils on display.

That's pretty much what I'd like to see in the next ES.

Good point, but a man can dream can't he? Well, Oblvion was an EXCELLENT game, I still go back to play it once in a blue moon. But you covered the based on things I would change, I would like an online function, something similar to Two Worlds just you know better.

online would be cool. Although if they do give us an online, I have a feeling it would look/work something like Guild Wars with the sharded stuff and all that if they make it into an MMO.

It's more likely though that you will have to set up your own servers or rent one ala Battlefield 2. Making your own server would limit multiplayer to 1 or 2 of your friends or something.

I really want to see them go back to the merchantile system they used in ES 3. In that game, if a person really knew what they were doing, they could set out and make a ton of money even at a low level. In Oblivion they made bartering less productive because they wanted to see gamers focusing more on skills like Alchemy to make money.

I would also like to see them focus more on the main story line. The storyline of Morrowind was amazing but the one in Oblivion was rather dry. While I did like the addition of the arena, dark brotherhood quests etc, I hope they put more effort into the main story next time around.

I agree wholeheartedly with the build-mode idea. Its pretty frustrating to spend time setting up your house the way you want only to walk by and have your dremora claymore knocking things off the shelves.

Apologies for the bump but I hadn't seen this until now.

One thing I would love to see in a future ES game is a world without loading screens. In Oblivion you needed to load every time you entered a city or a building, this probably saved the graphics a bit but I'd much rather have a seamless world to frolic around in. Out in the wilderness you only occasionally encountered a little lag when you needed to load a new area, so something like that but on the whole map.

I agree with the story improvements, although Oblivion had a decent story it was overshadowed by everything else. I remember barely scratching the surface of the Morrowind storyline after putting in a fair few hours (the lack of a journal probably helped though). So a massive plot would be a must, maybe some cutscenes for a change too.

Probably the biggest change they should make is the voice acting, Oblivion only had one actor for each race and gender totalling fewer than a dozen for the majority of the NPCs. Since the map will probably expand and towns, cities and villages will be further apart I would expect to encounter different languages, different dialects and different accents for the NPCs. Then one of your optional side quests or skills could be for languages so that you can speak to different people instead of instantly understanding them. Improve your skill or complete quests and it is easier to understand foreigners, so you could get further information or quests from them.

Alternative paths for quests and objectives would also be a good improvement, as well as some new dungeons that aren't all caves or Ayleid ruins.

I want them to have online too, maybe they could set it up like Phantasy Start Online for the Dreamcast where you go into a main lobby then group with your friends and then go into the actually world with just your party. I've been waiting for an online game like that again, or for those who dont remember PSO how about the Dead or Alive waiting lobby it could be set up like that.

I wouldn't mind them putting the Three houses back up like they had in ES3.. Like House Hlaalu, and i can't remember the other ones.
