“Goodbye, Old Soul”

I sit here in the moonlight,
Under the stars,
Sitting on shaky ground,

There is a flash of light,
A blast from Mars,
Blowing away the old me pound for pound,

I used to get mad,
And I still do,
But now it’s righteous instead of a fool’s,

I used to stutter,
I was shy,
Someone noticed and kissed the sky,

Then they said, “Now don’t be afraid”
Whatever score you haven’t settled will soon be paid,
You must be worse, in order to better,
You must construct a new self letter for letter”

And now I sit here, typing my soul,
Paying homage to the broken old,
It served me well, and I move on,

This is my goodbye, my old soul,
I’ll make sure you’re story gets told,
But now I’m sitting finally in bliss,
On shaky ground and with an opened fist,

This is my testament,
The bombs the sendoff,
I count your death by sonic booms,

Now I’m worse, and now I’m better,
Because I’m myself, and in this poem,
I can really write every letter.
