PS3 Pricedrop... sorta

So if you haven't heard yet, the 60 gig PS3 is currently experiencing a $100 price drop making it $499 (yay), unfortunately the "pricedrop" will be short lived (boo). Sony has decided to drop the 60 gig SKU of the PS3 for an 80 gig version which will cost $599 and include a copy of Motorstorm. What they dont tell you is that in order to keep the new 80 gig at the $599 pricepoint, they are also dropping backwards compatability.

I think the psueduo pricedrop combined with a very strong linup of games coming out in the near future finally makes the PS3 a worthwhile investment. Not to mention the fact that if I want to play all of the old PS2 games that I never got to play without going out and buying a PS2, and the fact that I can get a Blu-Ray player for $500 makes this deal very appealing.

got mine a couple days ago. an extremely huge investment. games like lair, killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, MGS4, that easily make the ps3 a worthwhile system. and like you said, a blu-ray player.

Im still meh...i was always a Sony fan till all the PS3 stuff started happening. And while there are some good games coming I still cant see dropping that much. High def movies...not important to me. Sonys become more and more self serviant and only worry about their pockets. Im still a very strong Wii60 supporter and will until Sony wakes up and relizes games and fun are important. The only game I wanted a PS3 for was Final Fantasy and its coming to 360. So Im gonna save up and get a Halo 3 360. The PS3 may ahve its strong points...but Sonys slowly shooting themselves in the foot more and more. They've lost sight of why ppl loved them to begin with in my opinion

Clearance sale of PS3s!!
Most likely the 80GB will go down to 499 after they run out of stock, however I'd suggest getting it now because the 60GBs are using hardware emulation for PS2 games, where the 80GB will be software emulation (and thus not quite as compatible)
