i'm using a zoom adsl modem/gateway, and when i run the tests it says the NAT settings are strict, preventing me from joining certain games, and talking over private chat. anyone know how i can open the NAT settings, or have i got to buy a new router instead? if it any help, the serial no. is 0226, and the model no. is 5551A.
also, starting today, when i sign into my profile, it signs into xbox live, then about 10-20 seconds later disconnects. if i sign in again the connection only lasts a few seconds before disconneting. this be my other problem that i have?

Have you tried updating your firmware first before worrying about configs?

that and if you have a router....and it has a "dmz" option to bypass your firewall that will open up your NAT

if you have a linksys router.....goto i.e. type in 192.168.1.1 and the generic PW is admin
for belkin 192.168.2.1
PW is admin...
you should have the dmz option in there

Honestly if you want to put yourself in the DMZ you should just throw your router in the trash. Only reason you should create a DMZ is for a webserver or something.

1) how do i update the firmware?
2) i dont think its got a DMZ, i'm not completly sure, but i cant find it anywhere when i open the modem up on the pc

also the modems only got one port, my pc and xbox are being thread through a type of splitter. so wont putting it in the DMZ (if ive got one) open the computer up to viruses and similar stuff?

It will tell you how to update your firmware in your instruction manual and the latest firmware will be on the routers website
And yes DMZ opens you up to everything, thats why i said it is incredibly stupid to do that.

i only have my 360 on the dmz...and i assigned that ip address to the 360...this was the suggestion i got from linksys directly...since then i have had NO problems with connecting or voice issues
