so . . . i feel really stupid asking, but how do you guys get your pics isolated from their backgrounds . . . you know? like, i know you can get stuff off places like gamerenders.com, but i don't really want those . . . i wanted to cut people out of other pics . . . is their a good way to do that? (oh btw, i own adobe photoshop cs)

If you get any from there, make sure you have approval from the person that made it.

Yeah, sorry Azreal, but DeviantArt stuff is all copyrighted to the person that posts them. You have to have the permission of said person before using.
I would suggest checking out www.planetrenders.com and www.gamerenders.com/forum

I render all of my own stuff, unless im feeling really lazy. I read a really good tutorial on rendering a while back, i'll try and find it again, but if I cant I can share some tips.
Use the Polygonal Lasso Tool (keyboard shortcut "L"... for me anyways).
-I either use the magnetic lasso tool or the poly. lasso tool
-If you use the poly. lasso, make lots of points. The more points you have, the better and more rounded your renders will be.
Take your time
Most renders I do take at least an hour and a half, and have gone upwards of 3 hours, so patience is key.

best bet is to use the pen tool. I'll make a tut on it later. then for things such as hair that are really hard to do. use the lasso tool with a high feather setting.
Sounds confusing...I know.
