The Furture is here. Ever played a game or seen a Sci Fi show where something was powered up or recharged simply by placing it on some sort of table or swiping it past a pad? Well I have a feeling that those days aren't too far off. Soon, You'll be able to charge all your battery powered devices (Ipod, Cell phone, etc) simply by placing it on what looks like a mouse pad!

I read about this a couple weeks ago. Looks like a neat idea but it still has some ways to go before its ready for mass commercialization. You need to install some sort of adapter or recepticle to the battery of your device in order for it to work with the charger.

So that and a high introductory price are two things holding it back at the moment. If they can get battery manufacturers on board to integrate the technology into the devices that would go a long way - but the manufacturers wont do so without an incentive in the form of an acceptable installed base which hinges on the price point. If it was a $10 or $20 dollar device people would pick it up as an impulse buy. But at its current price point - not so much.

Will be interesting if the technology takes off. Modern homes in the year 2040 may have all surfaces outfitted with this stuff and all your appliances feed from it. Would be neat if you never had to plug in your coffee maker or toaster oven. Just plop it down on the counter and have some high powered supper effeicient battery power the device and recharge after use.

Ah, that would be awesome, I wish I could be reborn like... 50 years from now.

Edit! I just realized my toothbrush uses inductive charging! Sweetness!

Yupp focus, a lot of commercial toothbrushes do that, pretty cool eh?
I've actually seen this type of thing for a while now, its not nearly as cool as the power transmission some gents from MIT came up with that uses resonant frequencies in materials to wireless transmit power around, between, or through objects. Apparently they lit a light bulb wirelessly, i think it was like 15 ft away. Cool eh?

That would be really nice for anyone in to electronics. I have a lot of stuff in my room that needs AC power and without long cables I can't access a power outlet. I have no problem running cables around, but it looks messy when I clean my room. All the wires are behind furniture, but if I pull the furniture out all you see is a bunch of wires. Wireless power would make my room a lot more neat and organized :D
