For anyone who upgraded to the Elite Box yesterday (April 29th)

Elite owners who previously owned a Premium unit and upgraded, Microsoft is offering the transfer kit for free. But there's a few things owners should know about being this process.
First off, to request the form, you have to goto:
http://assets.xbox.com/en-us/support/MigrationKit-OrderForm.pdf
and instructions about how to do the process are at:
http://www.xbox.com/en-us/support/systemuse/xbox360/console/datamigration.htm

The issue with the transfer kit is as follows:

The transfer can only be performed once. It erases any existing data on the 120GB, so any game saves you may have tossed on there are now gone. Said data will then be replaced with all nonmovie content from the old 20GB, which is then itself erased, leaving it blank. The information is in no way copied from one drive to the other, but literally moved from one to the other. And the cable is thus useless.

So just some useful information, if you've upgraded and are working on the data transfer issue, that's how it goes. Enjoy -

The movie content would be erased as well, I suppose.

The data transfer does not transfer your licenses for content. So even if it transferred a movie over, you wouldn't be able to watch it on the new console, since the license is not for that console.

Actually you can watch your licensed content on the new console, as long as you are signed on to XBL. The licensed content is connected to your gamertag. This is according to the video I watched on XBox.com.

I have my elite. You can redownload anything you have bought onto your elite they are not going to charge you twice. So any map downloads ect. you can redownload using your profile. Anything else can be saved onto a memory card and transfered over. Xbox support told me the cable wasnt going to be ready for another month or so :0(

That's what I'm doing. I put my profile on a memory card so I can play on either box without having to recover. I just redownloaded the arcade games and TV shows I have bought. According to the video I saw, it takes an hour to do the transfer, you almost come out quicker just re-downloading if you don't have TONS of stuff.

Can the old hard drive still be used? It would make good eBay fodder once the Elite arrives on our well watered shores.

You can put your original 360 harddrive on the Elite :)
