I'm not that big of a fan, but I saw them live in 2004, and they're an excellent live band.
And the "Knights of Cydonia" video is brilliant.

I first noticed them when my sister was playing Black Holes and Revelations a lot and I liked them.

ah! Two of their CD's I have are great (Absolution and Black Holes and Revelations). Really good albums and I like them because there's not just one or two good songs on them, pretty well all of them are good.
