yes you read right, rock band for the ps3 and 360 is in the workings right now. vocalist, bass, guitar, drummer, and the mighty axe can be played. online is going to be huge, with people making bands from across the world. it sounds awesome

I see the extinction of actual bands in sight. Wait a second, I'm in a band.
F***.

Nah, I don't think so. This seems like they're combining all of the bemani games together into one (guitarmania, drummania, keyboardmania, etc), so everything will most likely be simplized. No one who plays these will actually gain enough skill to play the actual instruments, so real bands will still stay in existence. I suppose this is a great alternative for those musically challenged.

You mean, you WERE in a band. :P
And
I think Caffum just called me retarded.

Oh, no, if anything I called myself retarded. I can't play a piano without it disintegrating below my finger at how horribly bad I am with instruments or singing.

Its a good idea, but very few people in the world are going to spend that much money on instrument controllers.. You can already imagine walking in to best buy and seeing "ROCK BAND CONTROLLERS, ALL INCLUDED, ONLY $249.99".
And if you coordinated with your friends to see who would buy which controller, then they'd eventually get bored of the part their playing I bet.
Not to mention, who has 3 friends that would regularly come over and play rock band with you? you'd have to do it online probably, which will make it even more complicated when trying to see who gets what controller.

I agree with on a few of your points, but there's some things that could be done and still get the game to sell well.
You probably don't need to own all of the instrument controllers. I'm sure there's modes in the game where you can play "only keyboard" or "only drums" or such, in which all the other instrumentals are done by the disc itself, and you chip in with your instrument of choice.
As for online, they could set it up like a FPS sort of way. You have the guitar controller? Then you search for people online grouped together that are missing a guitarist. I'm sure they will have customizable searches to make online easier.

yeah i see your point. but if they make the GH2 controller compatible with it, then everyone would already have a guitar (that is if you got GH2). so you'd go out and get the next best instrument you want. i think this idea will be awesome, im stoked

Yeah, for single player.. but you can't sell a party game off of single player content. Thats like playing single player mario party, or Wii bowling, sitting at home alone.. It just gets boring eventually.
I'm sure there will be a search function online to find other people with different controllers, but thats assuming you want to play with random people. I'm saying, you'd have to coordinate with your friends on who buys what controller, if you want to have fun with friends.. and quite frankly, if you're not playing a game like this with friends, its just a waste of money I think.

People singing on xboxlive would be amazingly fun I think if I played with some friends. I could imagine a lot of fun times listening to people sing badly.

i'm already a drummer, but i have never played the guitar so that's what i want to play. i just finished guitar hero 2 and it's friggin awesome. wonder if the online will be effected by lag very bad. might screw the sound up and have everyone offbeat.

Well since it's being made by Red Octane, the GH controller I dropped $50 better friggin be compatable.
But on another note, I do hope this game proves to be hard enough. I've been playing music (Guitar and Drums) forever, and after playing GH for about 1-2 hours I was doing songs on expert with only a moderate challenge (after 2 weeks of sporadic playing the only song I havent finished on xpert is Jordan), and I think the drums would be even easier based on the fact that the only challenge would be reading it as it scrolls on the screen (for me).
