Hi! I'm concidering buying a handheld, but I can't really make up my mind on whether to get the Sony PSP or Nintendo's DS Lite.

My gut feel is saying PSP due to a couple of reasons - it can be softmodded, you can watch movies on it, and I think the console is pretty comfortable. But the problem is the lack of good games for it, so gaming-wise I got a feeling that the DS Lite will bring me more joy.

I would like to hear experience and suggestions from you guys, as it appears that a lot of you got these already.

It really comes down to if you want to game or watch stuff.
However recently DS has decided to come correct and beable to play media stuff as well

LAN-ing with friends on DS is so much fun- but if you wouldn't use it for that then maybe the PSP is the way to go.
In my opinion the DS is the way to go b/c you get more bang for your buck and it is more of a gaming handheld, BUT that is just me and the majority of the friends i have.
Either way HAPPY GAMING

I'm a PSP fan...only because the game line up appeals to me more.

Game line up, WTF!? They don't have many good games.

Actually, they have some awesome games, Ridge racer, Monster hunter, GTA:LCS and more. But this isn't the selling point for me, it's the fact that Sony has licensing for the Metal Gear games, Gran tourismo, GTA, Madden, Final Fantasy, Tony Hawk....

Once they figure out how to use the PSP to it's full potental, The games will come.

Plus, I like the graphics better, I just don't play my DS much.

DS lite way more: Cheaper, more fun, awesome wifi, and great battery life.

One of the reasons why I'll be buying a handheld is so I've got something to play with on the idle moments on the roadtrip I'll embark on next summer. So I think that being able to watch videos would be a nice feature.

But people are saying that the DS are superiour with games, and I think that games would be even more important. Hmm, I'm having a hard time with this one :p

The DS is sooooo fun and the PSP you have to buy soooo much stuff for it, my friend has one and its VERY expensive to own.

Just decide which is a bigger priority.

If you want an affordable gaming system, go for the DS Lite.

If you want an expensive multimedia platform, go for the PSP. Do not get the PSP if your primary purpose will be to play games.

I haven't recieved the Lite yet, I'll pick it up tomorrow, I have no clue how the WiFi on the DS works, but I do have a wireless router, so that should do the trick - I won't have to buy Nintendo's ripoff adapter, do I?

I've played wifi with my DS and all I've needed is a wireless signal, no adapter needed. Plus is you want to play with a friend, most games will let you play using one cartridge. The other player just has to download your game wirelessly. You made a good choice with the DS, you won't regret it!

Hmm, I've got a couple of issues with the DS Lite:

1) It's not really ergonomic. After about 10 minutes of playing, my fingers hurt since I find the console somewhat awkward to hold. This could, of course, be that I'm new to the console, and that it takes some time to learn to use it correctly. I also have the same thing with the PS2 controller, they both feel too small for my hands. But, everyone seem to love these, so could be that I'm using it like an utter retard.

2) No way to jump back to main menu, you always have to turn it off first. Kinda annoying.

3) It seems to be unable of finding my wirelss router. Any ideas on what could help here?

You'll be happy with your choice. I own both, and while I love my PsP.. as for gaming the DS Lite wins hands down.

I use my PsP more actually, as an Mp3 player and the like.. but it rarely sees any gameplay on it.

yeah, ds rocks. very good choice, when you find your friend code, let me know what is up. beware though, people on mario kart kick butt. i got a couple games for my ds. but id only suggest, new super mario bros, super mario 64, and if your into that stuff, then advance wars. those are just games i have, but now you have a ds lite!!!!! i have a regular one, the reg one is harder and heavier to hold. so your lucky.

I like it a lot. If you like castlevania games.. you'll most probably really enjoy it. Its fairly short (from what I hear.. I havnt beaten it yet... about 10 hours tops) and its pretty straight forward. If you're looking for something new or different, you wont find it in this game. But if you're looking for a Castlevania game due to being a big fan, or not really having much experience with the series.. its a good game. :)

And yeah, no black in the US.. you can import different colors from Japan (no region coding) if you can find where to get them @, but you'll usually end up spending a good chunk of change more as well.. not to mention they're really tough to find.

I recently had the same problem; choosing a PSP or a DS Lite and went with the DS Lite for my GF.
PSP device is awesome and cant compare the graphics to a DS. It's like comparing a N64 to a gamecube. We both just love the Mariogames so that was + nr1.
A better name for the PSP would be Handheld PS instead of portable cuz it just aint all that portable; most people I know owning a PSP use it on the couch at home anyway and I have a Xbox360 for that. Furthermore the batterylife, OOH! the batterylife.......DS goes like 8 times longer and can actually be played on the road. Try fitting a PSP in your pocket  btw

For me a DS is more casual fun......way more.......
